For many years I had a plot with community garden. My love of fresh vegetables and also to have my children learn of how to grow their own food prompted me to garden. I have always enjoyed gardening. It is great exercise too!
Our home is located in a nice rural area. There are many trees that block out the sun and thus make it impossible to grow vegetables. We do have great perennial gardens that burst with color! Most of them grow with minimal sun and they flourish.

The town we live in has a community garden and we are getting a plot this year for a minimal price of $20. Plots will be tilled and ready for planting in May. With the price of fresh vegetables on the rise we decided that having our own garden spot would be the best way to go.
In our garden we will have a few tomato plants, green beans, wax beans, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, corn, radishes, carrots, dill, salad greens, and spinach. I would also like to have a couple of pepper plants too if there is enough room.
As you can see from the photo the garden looks plenty big. I found it on the website that is from our town. One good thing about the location is that it is a 5 minute drive from where we live. I can't wait to get started!

Your chance to have a plot in a community garden in your area could be just a phone call away. We called our local town clerk and found this one. A few packs of seed and some sweat equity will bring you a great harvest at little cost. Happy gardening!

That is a very beautiful garden
I can't stand gardening!
I wish our town would start a community garden.
Whenever I can finish my at home transcription work in time so that there is still some sun to see what I am doing, I am out digging my truck garden from last year. Last year the fences were not up and the neighbor's tractor did the digging and he dumped loads of manure on it and dug that in. I just made the rows how I wanted them and put in the seeds and then fenced out the bunnies. This year with those fences up, I have to dig that huge thing with a shovel (wish I had a roto tiller.) I am getting there but it is slow. Sitting all day working, I can use the exercise. I feel like a pudgy horse just let out of the barn in the spring after being in and getting fat all winter. This winter fat is coming off with that garden though. My garden last year much to my surprise was a huge success and I got to give away lots of squash. I did not get last year's garden in until the end of May. I really could have had this garden in a month ago by the weather but I have plenty of time to get the digging done and still have a great crop. It is my thing. So, I don't have to compete with anyone.
Shasta Dasies and sweet potatoes and paprika are being added to what I grew last year. I saved seeds from everything last year. I even froze some tomato seeds, so that should be interesting, first time I ever tried freezing seeds but the web show a guy doing it and he said it works well. We'll see.
My chickens have been making lots of poop for the garden too. :-)
Happy gardening.
I'd love for you to post this over at Gather Gardens. It would be fun to watch your garden over the summer. :)
I also can and freeze what I grow. We have stewed tomatoes, spaghetti sauce, salsa, chili sauce, ketchup, sweet pickles, pickled beets, dilly beans, etc. all winter long.
Always have enough to share with non gardener friends too.
Both of my daughters tried beginner gardens last year and did pretty good - they didn't get enough to can though - they're trying again this year.
I also have a separate herb garden - so love those fresh chives on a baked potato, and sage and rosemary... yum yum!
Thanks for stopping by my games and taking the break.
Happy Easter

wow so beautiful
Sarina, I wish you lived near me. We have plenty of land. But as we get older the weeding or hoeing is getting harder. Digging the potatoes in rough on us too. There is always enough to share. But everyone wants it for free and no one will help with it at all.
We have been hoping to persuade our landlord to let us use some of the vacant lots where we live. One thing we have been concerned about is the fact that some of the people who live around us may think that it is a "free" garden and take the vegies before asking. I would have no problem with sharing as long as they put in their time too.
