First Hibiscus Blooms for 2009

I bought a hibiscus tree last year, I call it my Charlie Brown tree.

It was on the clearance rack and I had to save it.

You may remember the photos I posted last year.

I brought it in for the winter and have been nursing it.

Thank you all. I started learning last year for the first time how to grow "stuff" and I'm like kid when something blooms! This one is still inside and the blooms are huge. I remember it last year, when one bloom dies another one almost immediately blooms to take its place.

Beautiful bloom! Sounds just like mine. DH thought I was crazy for buying such a scraggly looking tree, but I nursed it to health and bring it inside whenever the weather feels to cold. Mine has bloomed all winter for me.

Nana, How did yours bloom all winter, now I'm mad! I thought I did a good thing. But it only started blooming last week. What did I do wrong???? What type of soil do you use???

Horray, that is so completely amazing and yes, of course I remember it!! I'm grinning ear to ear myself, that is just so freaking sweet I love it!! Wrong? Nope, don't think so, everything right there without a doubt, you actually have blooms!! I would have made myself content just gettin it green, lol. After far too many years to disclose spent in zone 4, I have lived here in ZONE 10 (yikes!!!) less than 3 years, but I've spent most every moment trying to get something, anything to bloom for me and no luck so far, but it's still early yet and I haven't given up the war, stay tuned, lol =~>

Too funny Ruth. Thanks for the excitement, I needed that! I am still learning and when anything blooms, it's like I have won the lottery! It just doesn't take much for me. :)

I thought we could all use a peek of spring that is hopefully around the corner...somewhere.

John, the funny thing is I have never had a green thumb. I am realizing plants and flowers are like people, a little TLC goes a long way. :)

These are beautiful blooms. The hibiscus is one of my favorites. We kept one alive one year inside and it bloomed into January, then picked up again in March. They are sturdier than I would have thought.
