What could you do? I mean, with just two.
Could you build a great sentence?
A paragraph? A book?
Would they touch you in some meaningful way?
Lead you to thought? Lead you astray?
Would you have them fall silent to the ground,
like a tree in the forest with no one around?
What could you do? I mean, with just two.
Three? Well, three is certainly enough.
"I love you" has changed lives for better and worse.
Books have been written, and songs, verse by verse.
Three, no doubt will do. What about two?
May I give them to you? Please?
I want to see what you'd do. Read what you'd do.
A poem? A thought?
A sentence? An article or two?
"Bottled Promise"
I know what it means to me - those two.
What do they mean to you?

Is this a challenge? You do know tonight I'll have to work on what Bottled Promise means to me, right?
I just love you heart. Yes - By all means. Work. Do your magic and spread the word to others that you respect to do the same. We will keep our eyes posted on any new articles you come out with. I can't wait to see what you offer us.
a new bottle of first, cold press, italian olive oil. i can stand there, holding it....holding it up to the sun coming in the window, gleaming through the green.
i go into a daze, thinking of the dishes i'll make, the food on which i'll drizzle this liquid gold....bottled promise. the promise of excellent eating! thanks!
Isn't that just amazing? What images it brings up to people. I will not let on to mine until most everyone has written about theirs. But, it is something very specific.
Make an article out of your thoughts if you can Jessie. You made me hungry and I just ate. LOL
We could post our versions as articles and just add our names, like:
"Bottled Promise - David L"
This request is not an unselfish one. I view this an excellent opportunity to see all of the different styles under "one roof", so-to-speak. I wish to use everyone that participates as a tool to improve my own writing and creative skills. Hah. As unpolished as they are currently.
Hope to see your "thoughts" soon.
If not - That's OK. Thanks for your thoughts.
Hannah -- yeah - I already have a few good ideas of some questions -- some good thinking longer answer questions. And David, I also got a little of Mr. Rogers feel too, withthe poem, but in an adult, good way. Mr. Rogers and Dr. Seuss are two very admired men in my book! I gave ya a 10!
Dewar's Nap
He meant business.
"One bottled promise" he told the clerk, his mirrored shades reflecting back the fear in the clerk's face.
The clerk reached behind the counter and handed it over. The room dimmed. The air conditioning, which had been blowing cool and loud all night, suddenly silenced.
The man picked it up. He looked at it, his mirrored shades hiding any reaction. The gun lowered.
"Bottled promise" he said, and without another word, walked out into the shimmering hot summer.
Nice, descriptive writing. Would you mind publishing that as an article and tagging it "Bottled Promise" under literature, writings and such. It's really nice work and I want to get other comments about it and to have it appear with the rest of people's contributions. It deserves that.
Your work leaves me with all kinds of questions....
Thanks my friend.
I can't make the link work - here's the URL
So I took you up on your challenge:
My Interpretation of "Bottled Promise"
You people humble me. This is so much fun. I'm off to read you both. Thanks so much for putting yourselves out there.
Thank you for your kind words. Why is it that after bad days, good days seem to show up?
More "Two Words"? OK - But I think we ought to rotate that honor between us. I've had my turn. Someone else can come up with the next "Two Words". We'll get much better participation that way and also get to share the wealth as far as readership is concerned. Sound fair?
Why don't we make our "Two Words" a once a week exercise? Let's say every Monday we start out the week by doing a new "If I Gave You Two Words" article by a new person. Whatcha think?
An expanded version of my "Bottled Promise" contribution resides here.
Slip into your slippers,
put on your pajamas.
Sit down on the sofa,
uncork bottled promise.
Turn on the TV,
Tune into some dramas:
"Tomorrow, etc."
Macbeth says at Glamis.
Or pick up the Times
and read Friedman, Thomas..
He's full of the future,
predicting its traumas!
Take a big sip
then forget shamus and Hamas.
It's time to cork up
this bottle of promise!!!!!

Here's my contribution.

It's beautifully put....:)))

Off to read "you".
Everyone, please update your tags to include both 2 words and broken promise. This will help us track all those that participate! Perhaps I will post an announcement to make sure everyone gets the update.
Promise.
I'm too tired to figure out the link deal, so you'll have to pick it up off the search or by visiting my homepage. Sorry. Man am I tired.
I really like your skilled use of italics, again appreciate your deliberate use of terse, driving short questions or statements--reminds me of good playwright's dialogue, especially Sam Shephard, another cowboy you've got to read if you haven't, David. Your last line is just brilliant.
So, have you ever thought about writing plays, David? You and I should talk.
Although, I am familiar with Sam Shephard, I have not read his work. However, I will now. Thank you for the head's up, John. Writing plays? I have not given "serious" thought to any endeavor other than being the best father I could be for the last 27 years. I just recently began writing again after a very long absence. I do have a story I want told, but have yet to pen anything.
I'll email you privately soon. Thank you again, my friend!
Thank you Amigo!
Thank YOU for taking on this group and making it what it is today. It's been a good run!!!
