Don't forget your local thrift stores! You see and here in the news about how more and more people are using them, yet less donations are coming in as people hold onto stuff longer or do ebay and stuff,.....we were talking about this the other day (the family) ...we were like wow they used to have a lot more stuff at goodwilll....

So as you clean your closets and sort through leftover boxes of garage sale stuff, run it on over to a thrift store, goodwill will even take ratty clothes, they recycle them and make money off of them.

What I do is have a bag I toss stuff in as I go, weather out grown clothes or something that I see in a drawer, like why do I have this?

when the bag is full toss it in the car and run it in,,,chances are you might find a deal on something you want while you are there.

And for heavens sake don't toss good stuff! (coming from a dumpster diver here lol) Donating saves waste in the dump and helps someone!

Sorry aboiut the novel but this is something I feel passionate about, its a an easy way to give back thats not painful and better for the environment!

Great reminder, and important! Remember, too, that things such as small appliances, dishes, etc., that we no longer use are welcome to help earn for these shops, too!

We also have a local freecycle group and there are good things I see on there for people. I think the most strange was a person had to give away 5 horses. They did find good homes for them.

You're so right. When it comes to getting a few pennies for a piece of clothing or donating it to a thrift store, it makes sense to donate it. (You can even take the real cost as a deduction if you itemize your income taxes.)

Right on!
I got to admit I stay away from all the huge money making places.
The local goodwill is on a million dollar piece of property and someone there drives around in a jaguar, something weird about that.....
The local hospital, habitat store and of course people we know, or hear of get stuff first. The local church, and senior center. I have even handed out stuff to the homeless. I new it got where it was needed the most.
These thrift store are springing up all over the place where we live, everywhere too!!

One place if they get certain clothing in, jeans they save them for one guy who sells them over seas.
Be wise where one takes there stuff these days.... have you heard the recalled toys were going to the poor kids instead of back to the manufacturers where they were supposed to go? We will see this again, every year we see this.....

I agree with you Kathleen. I need to give away things that I don't use. I am somewhat of a hoarder. I am trying to change. I even have my neighbor who offers me things. I never refuse those items even though I have no room to put them. I must get rid of handbags, shoes books ect...

Around here they are turning stuff away, as so much are being donated from when people leave their homes in the midst of a foreclosure.

When I lost a lot of weight, I gave most of my clothes that no longer fit to a friend who is in just as tight of a financial situation as I am who actually needed the clothes and appreciated having them. I've seen her wearing them, too. They look better on her than they ever did on me.

I bring clothes to the consignment shop 2-3 times a year. Love it. I get money and I get rid of the old clothes. I also love looking at what is in the store - I find really good stuff for cheap. I found a Ralph Lauren sweater for $1 once. Love that!

I prefer to freecycle then to give to GoodWill...my husband has a friend who worked for them, and has told us many stories that really made me sick, many items that were donated to them were just stopped off at the land fill, items like TV's,computers, beds, big items, they only wanted clothes and small items. They also charge a lot of money for items that were donated! Now when I had something I always freecycle

sorry you had bd luckwith them! all th ones i have visited carry that kind o stuff, our local one sells pc's that are restored by a program where they train pple to put them together and stuff...
