On 24 October, people in 181 countries are coming together for the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet's history. At over 5200 events around the world, people are gathering to call for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis.
These pictures are from the web site of http://www.350.org/
.
Why 350 ??
The international grassroot movement to unite the world in action against climate change is called 350.org as scientists have identified 350 parts per million as the safe level of emmission of carbon diaoxide. The group hopes to use the internet to trigger global communtities to act against Climate change.
Events are occuring at significant spots ,as I write[ today 24th of October 2009],all over the world-from The Taj Mahal in India to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. The aim is to press political leaders to take action on climate change, especially as the UN conference on climate-change at Coppenhagen ,Denmark http://en.cop15.dk/frontpage is just a month and a half away.

3.A vegetarian diet as much as possible keeps carbon emmisions low.
3.Eat loccally available food.
4.Reduce your use of plastic.
6 Use fosslil fuel..more renewable sources of energy.

How are you??...Diane
Individual action is necessary. As we have seen, individual action has helped to create new markets for organic products and hybrid vehicles (for example). But individual action is not sufficient. In order to have a real impact on CO2 emissions, governments will have to put policies in place that will discourage fossil fuels and encourage renewables.
So, I think your approach is on target. Do everything you can yourself, AND do everything you can to convince your government (and fellow citizens) to act responsibly.
You are so right that Government will have to put policies. How far each country will go to reach desired emmissons will have to be seen ???
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday cleared India's position on climate change, stating that "equating GHG emissions across nations
on a per capita basis is the only just and fair basis for a long-term global arrangement on climate change which is truly equitable".
Thanks so much Sam
So,so happy that you have started taking action..WELL DONE !!!
I am trying to my bit:...........
I have all CFL bulbs in my house;I do stop my car engine at Red lights;Have solar water heaters installed;have Rain Water harvesting installed on my house roof to use for watering the garden;have bio-waste system that allows organic waste in my home to be converted to manure;Planning solar Electricity but its expensive to put up....so it still remains a high priority PLAN.
:D :D
Thanks so ,so much ..Janet.
