Our city is doing a pilot recycling program.  Fortunately, they decided to do the pilot in our neighborhood, so we won't have to lug all of our recyclables across town anymore!  They don't accept glass, but they take just about everything else.  I'm also hoping that this will improve our recycling, since we don't tend to recycle EVERYTHING currently, especially when we already have a ton of stuff that needs to be taken. 

They dropped off the container to put the recyclables in yesterday, although they won't be picking it up until the 18th.  After that they'll be picking it up weekly.  We already filled it up, and we have a ton of stuff in the garage to clear out!

Oregon is just advanced...I can't remember when we didn't have curb-side recycling. We have 4 wheeled containers for auto pick up by the trucks: garbage (smallest); yard debris (largest); co-mingled recyling for newspaper, scrap paper, metal, aluminum, cardboard, plastic. A fifth box is for glass. They must have to get out of the truck and put it in by hand. Soda, beer and other single-serve beverage bottles and cans are recycled at the grocery store with a five cent deposit like they have been since 1971.

Sure makes it nice to recycle at the curb! You'll love it.

Oregon is one of the greenest states!

Since 1988, I have always been where there is curbside recycling. I don't know what i would do without it!

I hope it catches on throughout your city...

we have a recycle container that we put out each week with our trash container. We have been doing recycling for over 20 years. It would be great if it would make a difference on the earth but I really don't think it does much.
Maybe they should make it manditory or something.

We have curbside recycling here, but they don't do cardboard, which is sad. I can just about recycle everything, if they would take cardbaord too.

That's odd that they won't do cardboard! Ours won't do glass, which is understandable. It can break and contaminate all of the other recyclables.

We've had curbside recycling for close to twenty years, perhaps more. I guess I'm so used to it that I don't understand people who say it's a hassle. We can recycle glass, cardboard, magazines, and batteries, as well as the usual plastics and cans.

That's great! We've had an excellent one for years. They supply three big barrels to use; black is regular garbage, blue is recycle of just about anything, and the green one is for leaf cuttings, lawn grass, etc.
We have more recycle than trash by far, and I was really surprised when it started how much is recyclable. I like that we don't have to separate it either (like some places I've been), with papers/card-board, metal, plastics, and glass etc. going all in one barrel. Makes it so easy...

No we don't. I have to save it in separated bags and take it myself. So the only thing I recycle are plastic and aluminum now.

Under the proposed system, you'll have to pay more if you want to keep the same-sized garbage can, but you can get a smaller can and it will cost the same.
That will be fine for us since we hardly ever take the can out once a week!

I wish our town would give us a container to put our recycling in! But at least we have recycling pick up. One week they pick up paper and cardboard and then the next week they do cans/bottles/plastic.

We don't have curbside recycling here. We have to drive 30 miles to drop off our recyclable stuff. That's probably why we don't recycle as much as we should!

They pick up recycles here, one truck comes for the trash and the other comes for the recycles on the same had. we have to put them on different sides of the drive way. ha ha ha, ben says recycle. works pretty good. even pick up our leaves, have put them in paper bags, real pain. in the city the people rake their leaves to the road and the come and vacuumn them up.

I live in an apt. building and I have to give it to my daughter to take to the refuse dept. here.

Some of my peeps are trying to get some satellite drop-off centers around town because there are so many apartment buildings here.

They've been doing cubside for homes for about 10 years.

yes, I trained my kids to recycle just about everything. We rinse out the milk jugs, cans, ect. Save all newspapers, even junk mail.Not only good for the Earth, but saves on your trash bill.

WOW I can't imagine anyone that doesn't have recycling. Jersey's been doing it mandatory for over 30 yrs. That's how I get my coke and pepsi codes, I walk the streets every two weeks taking the caps and box codes from the curb. LOL We get picked up once every 2 weeks, once the newness wears off, you may be switched to every other week too.

I"m glad they are doing it in your area. It's been a good thing for Jersey forever!

Virginia Beach has a great recycling program. We recycle everything we can get our hands on. My office has also just started recycling aluminum/plastic bottles about a month ago. I'm trying to teach my teenager good recycling habits and she does a great job when she remembers!

we have had recycling programs that pick up our stuff on the curb side. I think it is great! It comes with our garbage service which of course we have to pay for.

We have had curbside pick up here in Fort Lauderdale for years. They have improved in the past few years too. They have a pickup once a week on Friday for recyclables and lawn waste as well as garbage twice a week. I am always recycling because it is so easy. Unfortunately, I am the only one in the two townhouses that recycle and I know there are some people that just don't care. I find it frustrating.
