This past weekend's broadcast of Live Earth sparked a new wave of conversation about the impact our everyday actions have on our planet. While talks about global warming seemed to really have begun in earnest following Al Gore's ambitious Inconvenient Truth, dinner table conversation about it has lately quieted down. Perhaps the greatest reminders of the environmental consequences of our behavior can be found in the earth's most pristine images.
The Planet Earth DVD collection does just that, reminding us not of what we have lost, but what is at stake. With subtle narration by David Attenborough and unprecedented images of power and beauty, the BBC's Planet Earth is easily the finest nature series ever produced. Using high-speed, high-definition cameras, the filmmakers enjoyed unique access to remote locations to capture such marvels as a rarely seen leopard on the hunt or a polar-bear cub's first impressions of (and in) the snow. Focusing on one key habitat each episode, Planet Earth reminds us that it's a very big world, after all.
Take a look at the photos above, and then take a moment to tell us about how global warming has affected your life and habits.
