Nearly three-quarters of Americans believe it is extremely or quite important to give Americans the choice between a government-run health care plan and a private plan in any final health care bill, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll due out later today.
Some 73% said it was important to do so — 45% called it “extremely” important while 27% said it was “quite important.”
This is the strongest support ever in this survey, which was last taken in August.
According to the poll, 48% say they favor a public health plan administered by the federal government that would compete with private insurers, compared with 42% who oppose it. That's a shift from last month, though within the margin of error, when 48% opposed the public option and 46% supported it. And it's a 10-point swing from August, when 47% were in opposition and 43% were in favor.
Now the more Americans are beginning to understand that the "public option" is indeed a choice, and that having it would benefit all Americans, even those who are happy with their current insurance, public support is growing.

When the tea baggers and town hall yellers go home and get mail from Blue Cross and Blue Shield saying "Thanks for your support at the recent town hall for your community, keep us more wealthy and here is your bill. As always pay us promptly or else..."
Meanwhile, Joe Lieberman will join the republican and make the democrat short of 60 and filibuster the whole damn thing. I say CALL HIS BLUFF.

However, though I would tend to agree public support should cause it to be a non-issue, I suspect it is dollars, not votes at play. Lobbyists voices tend to drown out the populace. I'm hoping this time it is different.
And the Dems still haven't let the public or Republicans see the bill yet.
Will the bill be enough to win the leftists and centerists Democrats? Remember, no Republicans are needed to pass this bill.
Who's going to run against Joe Lieberman? Any takers?
