MPR's Tom Scheck reported this morning that governor Tim Pawlenty is slated to announce his cuts to balance the Minnesota budget today. He plans to use his emergency authority, unallotment, to balance the budget. Listen online at mpr.org, listen to the governor's announcement when it happens, and add your comments here.

He's suggested that he will cut aid to local governments, health and human services, and higher education to erase the $2.7 billion deficit over the next two years. He, however, hasn't released any specifics yet. What do you think of these decisions? If you were in Pawlenty's shoes, what areas would you cut?
This is an open discussion, so you're welcome to link to your related Gather articles or other online resources. Your comments & articles may be quoted on http://minnesota.publicradio.org/your_voice/ or on mpr.org.

Check out this related post regarding higher ed. by MPR's Julia Schrenkler that deals with Century College in White Bear. She posted another discussion right after the Legislature adjourned this year without having balanced the budget. Check that out here. What do you think now?
The DFL had an opportunity to rework how Health and Human Services dollars were allocated and didn't. We need to turn off the welfare magnet, but they didn't want to do that. So, now, there will be cuts in Health and Human Services.
Thanks, Winston. Actually, Paul Tosto who works at MPR as well has posted a couple of discussions about the governor's plans, and I should probably stay out of the way. Here are the links to his discussions:
How will Governor Pawlenty's budget cut plans affect you?
One more way for you to talk Minnesota budget
So, direct your budget commentary to those areas, and I'm going to kick off a discussion about Father's Day. Check back in a minute for that.
