Here's something that I've been trying to get across to people, but they simply keep posting the "I Adore and Could Never Live Without WalMart" articles:

You say that you cannot afford to shop anywhere else except WalMart. Did it ever occur to you that:

1) You would be able to afford to shop somewhere else if you had a better-paying job? And that many American companies including WalMart have destroyed the manufacturing base in this country that allowed people like you and me to actually receive a decent, living wage so that you could afford to buy elsewhere?

2) You probably buy too much stuff? That you have bought into the American consumeristic scam that says if you are not buying this piece o' crap and that piece o' crap, then your life simply isn't worth living? Did you ever think that you probably don't need to buy that shitty movie on DVD even if WalMart only charges you $5 for it? That you and your kids would do better to go take a bunch of books out of your public library for FREE and read them?

3) You may be actually endangering the health of your family members by buying cheap, crappy stuff from China and other Asian sweatshops? And that those unhealthy side-effects are actually going to cost you more in the long-run with doctors' visits and medications? Even if you buy your meds at WalMart?

4) You are actually doing something good for your country and the world by sacrificing a little yourself if you refuse to buy from these types of companies that bust and refuse unions, that sleaze around employment laws, that contribute to the denegration of human rights in other countries? You are actually more patriotic and compassionate by not shopping at places like WalMart?

He/she who will remain namless took you up on your suggestion and posted their conclusion that neither Bush nor Obama is the anti-christ. However, the post is still full of misleading and erroneous quotes from the Bible. Although I am connected to nameless person, I'm growing quite weary of the sensationalistic posts that keep coming across my feed.

Oh, and I guess my WalMart rant qualifies for your original intent, Julia. When I have made comments like this on such articles, I have been called heartless and nasty and had said comments deleted. And have gotten emails from friends of the author reiterating my heartlessness.

Actually, I have very rarely had anyone delete my posts. When it has happened (which is but a handful of times) it has usually been when I've shown the premise of their post to be so false as to be slanderous (e.g., when they state something and I've put the link to the Snopes report proving that it was a hoax). Generally people who profess free speech and then delete posts that link to the truth are people I remove from my friends list. Disagreeing is fine, being disagreeable is mostly bearable, but I do draw the line at purposeful slander, libel, and blasphemy. Hey, a guy has to have some standards, right?

I will say, the biggest laugh of my life was when my comment on a post that complained about the lack of free speech was deleted.

I still chuckle just thinking about it.

Yeah, I saw the original post you wrote about, and it made me realize that person (and the rest of the insects that buzz around that person) is not well. Maybe it was a sad childhood, maybe she/he drinks too much, I don't know, but something bigger than Michelle Obama is affecting her/his ability for cognitive thought.

Now, why would the author be compelled to delete such a simple, non-threatening, direct repsonse to her question, I ask?

Hey, I can't say too much, though I've been deleted tons of times for factual content that upset a few. I just deleted two comments from a guy that was intent on one thing, being as personally insulting as possible. The first time I told him if he had anything that wasn't an insult he could post it, the second, I just told him the next one went to gather support. If that makes me a censor, then so be it. I have no qualms of conscience on it in the least. Posts that are not personally insulting, I never delete. Everyone has a right to their point of view, but it can be stated without making personal reference to....shall we say, my intelligence, my status as a non mentally handicapped individual, and a few others that I can't even think of a way to post here without divulging the full tos violation of them.

You really don't know what you're talking about, do you? I am an ASL signer and frequently go to rock concerts. There's a fine line between the sign for I Love You and the sign for Bullsh*t, the second illustration in the pink box on your little chart. The first illustration, I've never seen anyone do. It isn't natural to put your thumb under your other fingers and there are no signs in ASL that involve unnatural finger positions.

What you're thinking is "El Diablo" is something Ronnie James Dio takes credit for popularizing at rock concerts. It's the sign to ward off the "evil eye" that he picked up from his Italian granny. In it, the thumb is pointing forward so the thumb, pinky, and index finger from 3 points.

I have only had a handful of comments deleted - but I believe three of them were deleted by the same, troubled 'woman'.

Do I have to go into time out if I reposted my original comment back on the original post it was removed from?

Even if it's on-topic, completely valid, not offensive, and the person posted to a public website with a message that says Join the Conversation above an inviting, empty text box. The killer is that the deleting person who posts bushit gets points when you view, and again when you return to leave your comment the second time. I would much rather you post something about the topic, clear up the misinformation, and let me come to your thread to respond and give those views/points to you.

Well, now, I just gots to say first, Far Out! It has been said I don't necesarily play well with others; in light of that of course I do attempt to sticking with playing with myself. I've also been known to run with scissorsm but no one has ever gotten hurt other than me so no one ever objected to it and I've only been deleted once. Well, by only one, a former contact and anything that ever was posted by me on anything of theirs went at once, but was for different reasons entirely, too abstract to even sum up understandably!
I just got to say this article as a whole is quite innovative and the time was overdue, kudo's to you, way cool without a doubt! Though to really totally be free, I would have flagged it myself for language so people could rock on however they saw fit, just censored my ownself a few times to post this comment, don't want to be the cause of a flag you don't want. Ummm...The author seems to be offering pseudoscientific nonsense in a cynical effort to sell books. Like Sy says, the best thing is that the diet the author suggests is probably harmless.

Here's one I posted in response to an article where the author complained about people disagreeing:

When you post something controversial on a site like this you have to expect that you're going to get personal attacks. Doesn't mean that whoever posts the personal attack is well balanced. It's just that offering a controversial opinion will stimulate some people to attack you rather than your opinion.

It's just like real life.
