In my State of Minnesota, one retired moderate (Ramstead) was succeeded by a partisan Republican, which makes Congress worse (more partisan) in my book. I know that most of the defeated moderate Republicans were replaced by moderate Democrats. That's interesting, but not all that interesting.
Does anyone know of a partisan Congressperson that lost to a moderate?
Progress, all I ask is progress.

Sorry can't help you out on that one this year, but I do know that in 2006 a partisan/conservative Republican was defeated by a moderate Democrat who one reelection this year in a district where Republicans still outnumber Democrats, but by a smaller margin than they once did.
As a former member of the GOP I sincerely hope there will be a resurgence of moderates and liberals in the GOP that emerges from this years debacle. Both political parties need voices of dissent within their ranks for the parties and our nation to remain strong. I think the emergence of both moderate and conservative Dems are among the factors that help fuel this year's Democratic victories. I hope this has been noticed by those moderate members of the GOP who did not find it necessary the leave that party and cause them to reclaim that party and allow dissent to once more flourish in the GOP as it does in the Democratic Party. In the meantime, I will do what I can to make sure the Democratic Party does lean to far to the left and does not end up suffering a fate similar to the one that has befallen the GOP.
Given that the State of Alaska seems to be on the verge of reelecting Senator Stevens, should he be sentenced to jail he would have to give up his position (or he will be forced out anyway). The Governor has the authority to appoint someone in his place. It isn't likely tot be the Democratic contender (Begich). In fact, it appears that Governor Palin could even appoint herself as Senator for Alaska to replace Stevens.
Now wouldn't that be an interesting twist.
Instead of sending the moderates on the other side home when things swing to the other side, how about tossing some of those partisan hacks home to mow their lawn.
