Wow! A Gitmo for protesters in Denver!

Yep! They get the nice county jails! Denver gets Gitmo!

So, will those commie, pinko, rabble-rousing hippies obey they law?
Obey the law peacefully?
Why do they need to damage property, assult convention goers, confront police officers, and obstruct people going to a legal event hosted by the city?
Can't their protest be civil?

I'll be volunteering at some hotel to be determined as a greeter and making sure people get on the right bus.

I say let them go where they want, do what they want, and say what they want. However let them know that when they break the law and cross the line they will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They will not just be "let go" later unless they can post bail. That they will have to appear before a judge and either be found guilty or not guilty and will serve out their punishment.

So let em run wild as long as they are willing to accept the consequences of their action. I know a scary thought.

The troubling precendent was set in NYC at the last GOP convention, when thousands of peaceful demonstrators were hauled off to jail for no reason other than that they opposed fascist dicatorships and criminally corrupt presidents.

The city was run by a republican mayor when the civil rights abuses took place, and the civil rights abuses took place during the GOP convention of hatred and fear in 2004. Get it now?

What does this have to do with the RNC????? Nothing. They sued the NYC Police. Most of the moonbats arrested DESERVED to get arrested. Obviously, there were a few that got caught up by overworked, over stressed police. But this has nothing to do with the RNC.

I think the "Free Speech Zone" is a Republican idea. It's nice to see that the other major party knows a "great" idea when it sees it.

I'm appalled by both parties' need to manage what people see on TV to the extent that they do. Confining protest to an approved area just makes all protesters look like loonies. Great spin control and totally un-American.

For anyone who has ever been in a protest where a situation has erupted, it is well known that the opponents plant people within your group to stir things up.

This "Gitmo" as it is called was built by the city, not the DNC. Where does it say the DNC did that. What is wrong with you people.

Interesting perspectives in this article, especially the follow-up discussion. What Sharon above writes has been a strategy among certain neocon groups. Also, where is the discussion of the divisive McCain campaign, the type that inspires the nut-jobs in that movement to get stoned on meth and find some way to gain self-notoriety with an assassination notion. That alleged plot also seems to point to how ineffective Bush's war on terror has been at best, and how simple city police work might have always been the best way to go.
