A riveting talk on binge drinking

Minnesota has one of the highest rates of binge drinkers. And young people are dying, just this morning comes a report of a North Mankato-area young man who died from what authorities suspect is alcohol poisoning.

MPR held a forum on Monday night with students, parents, counselors - on why people, especially young people, binge drink. Here is a live blog by Bob Collins on the full discussion.

Looking at my party days in college I should count myself lucky. There were proably a few times that I did could have easily become a victime of binge drinking. This is a problem and parents should really take an interest in this.

The question was raised in this forum whether there should be a change in our Minnesota law to allow colleges to give detailed reports on student behavior. Right now, that is barred, primarily because... well... they are considered adults and it is a privacy issue.
