My apologies for not being familiar with most of the names, but a friend told me about the Turtlehead. Below you will find my favorite turtlehead photo, entitled "Turtlehead with Bee Butt."

Sorry, another name I don't know, although it might turn out to be a lavender Turtlehead?

I believe this is a Silky Aster, according to the Minnesota DNR website.

This bright yellow flower was so gorgeous – I couldn't find it on the Minnesota DNR website but it looked something like a miniature orchid.

These appear to be what the Minnesota DNR website called Autumn Sneezeweed.

I don't know the name of these, but they were lovely and delicate, very elegant flowers.

One last photo, gorgeous color - pretty soon it's autumn and the leaves will match these colors!

An interesting display of wildflowers. I am often surprised at the differing wild flowers in different parts of the country.

The Turtlehead I have in my garden as well as the thistle and just recently I took a picture quite like yours with the little yellow flower. The fauna where you live must be quite similar to the danish fauna. FUnny, isn't it? Almost a world apart and yet so many similaryties.

Ruth, Mona and Diana - thanks much. This garden is one of the coolest places in the Twin Cities, I'm very fortunately to live close by.

Mona - yes, we do have similarities! I saw a flower picture of yours that looks like what I have in my garden as well, but I don't know the name - yellow flowers, they grow almost 8 feet tall. My husband just got back from a biking trip with his son in England/Scotland and has several thistle pictures as well.

Darn it, Tony, I must have missed that particular lesson in Latin! I did look up turtlehead, and it's also known as Chelone glabra; Googling for bee butt brought up some interesting stuff, including how to create a "bee butt bun" with your hair, but no latin terms!

Miz Dorothy - It always amazes me how places as cold as Minnesota can have such lovely flowers...maybe they just stand out more because of the short growing season. I think one of the yellow flowers is called Jack in the Pulpit - something like that -I'll try to look at the others closer and tell you. Are those berries rosehips or choke cherries? I loved all the photographs and enjoyed my little walk kdown at the sanctuary! Thank you. Salud.

Hi Mariana - I guess we just have to make up for the cold winters by having a lot of beautiful wildflowers in the summer - this past summer particularly I seemed to notice an awful lot of gorgeous wildflowers, even in the alley behind my house. Much prettier than most of the domestic ones I try to cultivate! (I'm better at growing tomatoes!!)

Beautiful pictures of beautiful flowers. The yellow flower looks like Evening Primrose. It's hard to tell without seeing the leaves and stalk.

Thank you so much, Laurun - you may be right, it was very delicate and beautiful. Whenever we get rid of the twenty-some inches of snow and there's a glimmer of spring, I'll think I'll take my picture over to Theodore Wirth Park and ask them about it.

Very beautiful pictures! The second picture is Closed Gentian and if number 4 (yellow) has a hollow stem and is 3 to 6 tall it is Pale Touch Me Not.

The Bee But is a nice touch!

Thanks again, Trudy, I appreciate your nice comments. I love the wildflowers - we have several different vareties that pop up every year in the schoolyard across the alley behind us, and they've kind of piqued my interest - Eloise Butler is a perfect place for a lovely walk.
