have you ever heard or read this one?
"even if global warming has nothing to do with carbon dioxide, you guys should be happy about efforts to reduce fossil fuel burning because those efforts reduce air pollution and save lives. I don't understand why people on both sides of this argument get so upset. we just need to compromise and work together and we can easily fix anything."
where to begin? in general, I like moderation, compromise, and civility. But there are some problems to this approach.
1. it's about science. in the same way that the laws of gravity do not care that you made an honest effort to lighten your Airplane enough to get over the mountain, so do the laws of chemistry and physics not care that you are making an honest effort to be nice to climate denialists. they may be great people to share a beer with, they may read lots of books to their children, they may help old ladies across a busy street. But they fundamentally are not accepting of modern science, and without accepting modern science, you don't understand that the airplane did not get lightened enough to fly over the mountain. result: the human race crashes and burns in the era of our great grand kids.
2. you are making the argument to reach compromise, but they are not interested. You hope that your statement "even if global warming is unrelated to carbon dioxide" will serve as an olive branch to denialists- who you may in fact not see as denialists, since you may not be up to speed on the science yourself. But the group of Ayn Rand individualists, anti-Greens, and Biblical fundamentalists against Stewardship, really will not accept anything short of absolute surrender. For them, CO2 is a blessing that makes roses grow bigger. Just saying, when you come to negotiate and the other guy comes to Kill, you lose.
So in conclusion, I believe that you are muddying the waters and would do best to remain silent. Also, on your free time, please read up on climate science. Because then you will no longer be tempted to say contrary-to-fact things like "even if global warming is unrelated to carbon dioxide".
Sorry if I seem rude.
