Phil Robertson is breaking his silence after the fallout from his GQ interview earlier this month, and Yahoo News is one of the first media outlets to report about it. According to that website on Dec. 23, the Duck Dynasty commander isn't backing down from his religious position about homosexuality being a sin.
But the real story now isn't that the famous father from Louisiana is continuing to hold Bible studies and talk about what he believes is right and wrong based upon the Bible. The real story is why he was called "homophobic" by Us magazine when Merriam Webster clearly states that a homophobe is someone who hates or is afraid of homosexuals or treats them badly.
The Duck Dynasty leader never said anything about hating homosexuals or being afraid of them. In fact, he has went out of his way to talk about loving all of humanity, and only hating sin. The NY Daily News just reiterated that on Monday, quoting Robertson as saying, "I love all men and women. I am a lover of humanity, not a hater".
There is a big difference between hating sin and hating people. You can love the sinner but hate the sin they participate in, and every Christian knows that, of course. Heck, you can hate alcoholism and hate the destruction it wreaks on people's lives but still love the alcoholic, right? The same is true for other sins as well. And to Phil it is a sin for a man to want to physically have sex with other men, and God says the same thing.
In the Yahoo! News piece, the article says "the duck hunter sparked controversy last week after he made several homophobic and racially-charged remarks" in his GQ interview. And Yahoo cites Us Magazine as the source for that comment. But there is no comment by Phil Robertson that supports a hate of homosexuals. There is only comments by the Duck commander that supports his position that homosexuality is a sin and his Bible supports that position.
So who is hating who here? Shouldn't the truth be spoken by all, including the media. So why did one site label Phil homophobic just because he doesn't embrace homosexuality? He doesn't have to. There is no law that says you have to agree with homosexuality, just as there is no law that says you have to be in agreement with Christianity.
A Catholic publication thinks that a Gay mafia group of homosexuals is behind the controversy about Phil. And maybe they are right. After all, there are many people who are gay that do not think Phil was being homophobic at all. Maybe Phil is just being the target of another version of a witch hunt. And this time it is by a fanatical fringe in the homosexual community?
