Everyone knows Demi Lovato has a history of drug and alcohol problems. However just recently the X Factor judge admitted to having smuggled cocaine onto an airplane before.
According to a report from Just Jared, Demi was recently interviewed by Access Hollywood, and during that interview opened up about things she'd never shared before.
"Something I've never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," she explained.
That's a serious drug problem—one Demi is very fortunate to have sought help for when she did. She no doubt realizes how fortunate she was to have her parents take control of her life for a while, so she could get the help she so desperately needed.
Demi also talked about her drinking problem, and how she clearly wasn't ready to get help at one point even though she was undergoing treatment.
"I was going to the airport and I had a Sprite bottle just filled with vodka and it was just nine in the morning and I was throwing up in the car and this was just to get on a plane to go back to LA to the sober living house that I was staying at...I had all the help in the world, but I didn't want it," Demi said, referring to this as her rock-bottom moment. "When I hit that moment I was like, it's no longer fun when you're doing it alone. I've really never talked about this stuff before... I don't know if I should be sharing this."
Thankfully Demi Lovato has come a long, long way since those frightening, dark days. Her career is back on track and her relationship with Wilmer Valderrama is said to be strong. Demi is one of the lucky ones. Not all Hollywood celebrities emerge from the throes of addiction as well as this young singer did. Many fall peril to the throes of addiction, winding up unemployed, broke--or even worse, dead.
Demi sets a good example for young people who think they can't face their demons. She's proof that there is life after drug and alcohol addiction.
