Politics has raised its ugly head again for John McCain, as the senator became the target of a malicious bad press exercise on Wednesday. But McCain, who was able to withstand torture at the hands of America's enemies during captivity years ago, has chosen to speak out about his so-called crime on Twitter as a result.
Attention Walmart shoppers, here's a big "Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing - Worst of all I lost!" McCain tweeted.
The Arizona senator's tweet followed the publication of the photo of him playing the online phone game, which was made by Washington Post's photographer Malina Mara. And no one knows why she bothered.
It is likely the senator knew that not endorsing the president's current war agenda--and not endorsing it on Mr. Obama's terms--would result in some kind of attack, but he just didn't realize it would come at the hands of the press, obviously. But what a foolish attack it was, as all we've learned is that John McCain isn't much of a gambler. That's good news.
McCain was quick to try and deflect any fallout, however, publicly talking about the action himself on Twitter, which just goes to show he is embracing technology more since his failed presidential campaign efforts. And that's certainly a good thing, even if his adversaries now want to make something of him playing online games, as if it's a crime to go digital in a three-hour meeting going nowhere.
