I have some updates on the Gather community. This post will serve as a place to chat about these new updates. Please do NOT copy and paste parts or the post in whole to another site or post.
In the past, parts of comments made were posted out of context and caused much confusion and rumors. We have the ability to make gather a place that is respected and welcome new members. However when we spread rumors and cause panic, when it is not necessary, nobody wants to come to gather. Let's pull together and make this the best site online.
Please add your links to latest submissions and I will spotlight them for you.
Also please comment on posts so others will see your presence.

The Questions and Answers are copied exactly as I received them.
Keep in mind that there are still many changes in the forecast. We have the ability to prove we are worth the trouble to upgrade the site.
|Remember, if we complain instead of appreciate the fact that we have a place to gather, free of charge, we may ruin our chances of having a place to gather.|
Let's discuss calmly and respectfully the questions and answers.
I can't predict the future very far down the road, but there are no current plans that I am aware of to remove the "community" part of Gather.com.
Yes. We are working with an outside team of developers, and restoring the ability to upload photos and videos is on the agenda. But it's not our top priority compared to restoring article publishing (directly and from Skyword), fixing search, or building a better spam detection system.
I honestly don't know. Points stopped accruing originally due to glitches stemming from the late April cut-over. They resumed inadvertently in late June, and were halted again in July. I think that HG might have a hard time seeing the value, business-wise, of paying out $3,000 per month in points, when most of our traffic comes from Gather News, and not member activity. I'll try to get some answers, but I can tell it's a relatively low priority compared to fixing the items that will take big steps to restore our traffic.
Yes. Members should continue emailing firstname.lastname@example.org with their requests, and all the necessary information related to their requests. I know there are several pending orders dating back to late June, and I fill those ASAP. Paypal will come through sooner than gift cards.

Yes, at some point. I believe before we reopen the registration page, we will have to finishing building and implementing the new spam detection system. This new system will allow us to quickly and easily correct mistakes that it makes, and each time we correct it, it will "learn" and be able to discern spam from normal content more effectively as time goes on.
Connies Note: Please refer to the above link to the post on Spam.
Yes, I'm pretty sure, but it's another relatively low-priority item.
Yes, I'm pretty sure, but it's another relatively low-priority item. I do not have a timeline for the restoration of email notifications.
I host live chats with authors and have many authors awaiting to join the site. Right now, it is now working well enough to host those chats. What is the estimated time of restoration of the site?
It's really hard to say when everything will be working as normal. Everything keeps taking a lot longer than originally planned. But progress is sure being made, every day. I'll keep you posted with any significant fixes that get implemented.
