Spring Cleaning

I have worked for years on the best way to clean my stove top. I am pretty clean, and I hate muck, but my stove top has gotten the best of me. I have steamed it, and that works pretty well, but today, I found a new and rather obvious solution to the baked on goop: Oven Cleaner.

I used the self-cleaning oven cleaner on the stove top and it is sparkling. However, my house smells like I used self-cleaning oven cleaner in my kitchen. That is a small price to pay for a clean kitchen.

I am a nut when it comes to clean, and I have even gone to maid services to try to get them to spill the beans on their cleaning services, so I thought this might be helpful to you.

Yeah, your stove sparkles. Mine's ceramic, so I just use Comet. Down side -- it's electric.

Interesting topic. I have a glass top stove and it's pretty clean, BUT it is a constant challenge. The downside is I own ever cleaning product even claiming to clean glass top stoves!

I smear my drip pans with Dawn power clean, leave for 10 or more minutes then scrub them. It works quite well. There's also the old fashioned powder Spic and Span which does a good job.

My stove top is beyond redemption. I just covered it up with a cover and use it as countertop. I don't use my stove. I bought a hot plate and have a toaster oven and that is all the cooking I'll be doing in my tiny kitchen. ;-) Good tip, though.

Have you tried baking soda mixed with water? That might work?

I find that if I wipe the entire stove top down each day it never gets grungy.....mine used to be like that too and I hated cleaning it.

Um, wipe it down each day? Like spend several minutes each day? Uh, I'll settle for using the oven cleaner every three or four months.

No it does not take several minutes, more like a minute or two at worst, I have chemical sensitivity and oven cleaner is NOT an option!

i hate oven cleaner but if it works, thats great. it always took my breath and I couldn't breath. I just wipe mine down each day with dish soap and then follow up with a dry cloth right behind. so far so good. thanks for the tip!

I have a gas stove. I just take the grates off and put them in the dishwasher. I'm L-A-Z-Y. :-D
And I'm a huge advocate of bleach. Of course, I have young children, so there's always something growing that needs a good killing! LOL

I kinda wipe up messes occasionally, but the gunk on the stove just keeps building up. Every three or four months I use the oven cleaner on the top of the stove and I'm good to go for another few months.
