When I saw this prompt I decided to do some “brainstorming” on the noun
“roots”. Plants have roots from which they draw sustenance.
That led me to take this photo of our plant “Alice”. I discovered her pot is cracked and she appears in distress. So I headed to the garden shop where I picked her up a new larger pot and soil. They had shamrock plants, which I love, so I gave extra business to a local family business and brought one home. A good thing.
The clerk at the garden store complimented me on my hair and that led me to think of hair roots. Something mostly dealt with by us ladies as we change our hair color or try to hide our gray. Which of course is annoying but covering those roots is always ego building and therefore….a good thing.
My family roots came to mind and when I went to look for a picture of the area in Poland my great-grandparents came from I came across something new. The “Suwalki Genealogy Society” website. My curiosity got the best of me and there I found a list of area surnames. Lo and behold there was my family surname among them. This will lead to more research and that is a good thing.
Thinking of research I then went to my bookcase and
there I found a first printing of Alex Haley’s ROOTS. I think I picked it up at an estate auction and had forgotten all about it. I have watched the mini-series but have never read the actual book. Admittedly, I haven’t read a 600 plus page book since WAR AND PEACE in High School. Reading it now surely would be a good thing.
So this is some of the places that the prompt on roots have taken me today. Any one of them would make a good story but I have only enough time to write one piece today so I wrote this and that too is a good thing.
