Very few women own guns. women understand that guns are for killing, and that guns do not care who pulls the trigger. More men own guns, because more men fail to understand the things that women do understand.

I don't think it's a failure to understand who pulls the trigger, rather the additional understanding that guns don't pull their own trigger. For many people (male and female) guns are not for killing any more than darts are.
over 17 million women in the US have permits to carry guns. That doesn't include the ones who own guns without permits and the ones in states that do not issue permits (Florida is one, D.C. is another).
