It's not infected..

My 5 year old son has complained of an ear ache 2 nights in a row. He seems fine during the day.. but he has woken up in pain for 2 nights now. Today I decided to take him to the doctor to see if he has an ear infection. Turns out he doesn't. The doctor couldn't figure out why my son is telling me his ear hurts, since there's no indication of anything going on inside his ear. The doc did write a script in case his ear gets worse.. but for now it seems fine and my boy is acting fine.. we stopped at Walmart on the way home and he was running and jumping around like a typical hyper child. If his ear was infected he could not have been running and jumping like that on concrete.. it would have hurt!

Don't you hate wasting time and money on a doctor visit to find out nothing is wrong?

Not that I wanted my boy to have an ear infection.. I just wish I didn't have to spend $20 to find out he didn't!

He could have had swelling due to allergies, especially milk. That would cause pain.

He doesn't have any allergies.. nobody in our family does.

Sometimes it's hard to tell that since symptoms can be so subtle. My youngest son kept having migraines, sinus and ear infections, etc. and I took him to all kinds of doctors. Finally I took him to a holistic osteopath and she had him do a blood test to see if he had allergies and it turns out he had mild allergies to several foods like corn, carrots, chocolate, sugar, wheat, etc. and now as long as he has very little of any of those foods and boosts his immune system with diet and supplements, he's okay. If he overdoes....he gets sick.
