As NBA Mock Draft 2013 predictions continue to be made heading towards June's next lottery, one team in major need of help is the league worst Charlotte Bobcats. With a record of 13-47, they've improved over last season's 7 wins, but that's not saying much. Michael Jordan and crew will hope for a #1 draft pick, and will probably get a top 3 again, but who should they select?
According to a Bleacher Report article, right now Ben McLemore is appearing on mock draft boards at the #1 spot for the Bobcats and other potential teams. Unfortunately, as mentioned in the article, adding a shooting guard will do little to bolster Charlotte's roster. The BR article notes, "the Bobcats are already overloaded with wingmen." Also, with McLemore getting just one season at college, his experience factor will be very low in terms of development. The Bobcats want to improve quickly, not spend another several seasons at the bottom. There may not be a ton of players available to get that instant improvement though.
So who can Charlotte get for the sake of quicker improvement? One suggestion being made early is Indiana's Cody Zeller, a guy who could have an impact with the Bobcats. Even though Charlotte has Byron Mullens, he's not exactly the big man they need. The areas Zeller would need to improve on are his size/bulk and defense, but with not a lot of options in this upcoming draft, he could be the best choice for Charlotte. They may even end up trading down with another team to make sure they get the right guy for their team. Then again, Michael Jordan has been criticized quite a bit for the way he's run the team so far, so don't be surprised if they pick McLemore anyways. After all, MJ was a shooting guard himself.
