Simple, Helpful Cooking Tip

Over the years, I've collected a number of gadgets for holding recipes and cookbooks.  My Home Economics teacher recommended laying a sheet of plastic wrap over the cookbook page so as not to splash it.  I don't have a lot of counter space, so I hate to give room to a book.

 

My neighbor gave me an idea that I love.  Got an extra skirt hanger in the closet?  Look how it can be used to keep your recipe from getting lost, wet or damaged:

If you're going to hang it near the toaster, as in this photo, unplug the toaster or you may wish you hadn't tried this hint.

I like it because I can take a page out of my cookbook and hang it in plain sight.  Speaking of sight, I can also hang my reading glasses on it.  Recipes and reading glasses are two things I often misplace while cooking.

Good idea for loose leaf recipes for those who refer to the recipe while cooking. Most of Barbara's recipes are in bound books and she doesn't have them in the kitchen when she cooks.

Some recipes that we make often, we don't need the recipe. Some of us are noticing a bit of forgetfulness, however, so it's good to have it handy.

I had seen that tip in one of those e-mails with photos that gets forwarded over and over...its a good one...Instead of a plastic sheet, you can also slide the recipe inside a plastic sleeve, the kind that can be used in a three ring binder...keeps the page from being splattered.

As to the toaster tip...sounds like it comes from experience LOL

Actually, Sonia, it's the influence of my dad who has always drilled us on fire safety ;) I've seen the plastic sheets, but haven't priced them. My binder is always growing.

Great tip. I have the cook's bible, Good Housekeeping's original cookbook. It started falling apart, so I put each page in a plastic sleeve.

This is a great idea. And I like that the letters are enlarged. Nothing is worse than struggling to read the ingredients and measurements. I never thought of doing this ever, but will now. Great tip, Jan. Thanks.

Hanging the recipe next to the toaster must have been a really hot smoking spicy recipe time. lol

My kitchen theme is chili peppers and I've got lots of red accent pieces and small appliances. I think red is very cheerful and energetic.
