Another seizure, and a wreck

Sorry for any typos. I'm tired and spent. Trying to stay awake to keep an eye on her.

Hard to rest when your nerves are shot. I was able to get her in bed, soon afterwards, so I could monitor her better. Now I have to figure out what else to do.

The police should know where her car was towed to. Find it quick they charge each day storage fees.

I gave the police officer my paperwork and asked her to call the number on my towing card when a car behind me did not stop when traffic did and pushed me into a truck. Nope she called the towing company of her choice instead. She did return the paperwork at the hospital I was brought to. The towing company would not take payment from my insurance company only from me and I did not have the money. I called up the Ford dealer, as I was driving a ford. I explained the situation and they arranged a car rental company to pick me up and bring me up to their to sign the paperwork for the repairs. They got my car out of the towing yard... and the car rental company took me back to their place so I could drive a rental car, as per my insurance home.

I figured I better warn you because those charges add up fast.

I am so sorry she had an accident, but I am pleased to hear she is still alive after all that.. Depending on the laws in your state, she might need a doctor to sign she is stable enough on medicine ot drive after a time period. In some states, once they know you have seizures you won't be allowed to ever drive again. Since an ambulance was called and her car towed... likely the police were there... and if they were, the may or may not know it was a seizure. I'd find out from the towing yard who had it towed, and if it was the police there will be a report. Get a copy of the report and find out if they wrote down she had a seizure... or not. But it is all up to her doctor if she can drive, and if she was to drive again after this without getting a doctor's okay... this whole episode can be used in a lawsuit against her should she get in another accident.

Again, I don't know the laws in your state, but this could be important to know before she drives again.

I know you are very upset, but please realize I care which is why I am writing this.
Some people who have seizures are never allowed to drive at all depending on the severity of the seizures.

One man I knew who was a truck driver had a seizure and his license was taken away. Without his license he could not work, without working he could no support his family... and he could not cope and went into the hospital. The state this happened in was Pennyslvania. Here in Florida it is different.

In Florida, you can get your license back if enough times goes by and your doctor signs for it.

Heather, we live in a rural area that does things very differently. We finally got the info this morning, as to where her vehicle is, and I and her daughter, who took off from school becasue of a bad migraine, went to it. The tow truck driver called the insurance angency. An adjuster will be there in a couple of days. My opinion is it will be considered totalled.
We gathered up her possessions. Found her cell and blue tooth, as well as presription sunglasses, cane, and beleive it or not her missing teeth. Don't know what the sheriff report is yet. She can't go to the nuero doctor in Tenn as that is to far, and the one she had in the nearby city who put her on those blasted anti seizure meds, already said if she drives, then he won't see her. But yet it was those meds that had her thinking irrationally, among other things. He was the only one she could find too, who was at least realitviely close. Going to have her go to her local MD. Don't know what good its going to do, but I want her seen anyway. Thought of not telling that nuero doctor about the wreck and just telling him about the adverse effects of the meds, and seizure. But that's just a thought for now. In the meantime I have to get her daughter to her doctor, tomorrow. She has been experiencing, periods two and three times a month. Reba fears she might have what she had. As if all this wasn't bad enough first thing in the morning my cell rings and it was my boss, wanting to know if I wanted to come in. Guess he can't get any of the other workers. I told him I couldn't because of major issues going on. Two minutes later my daughter texts me wanting to know if I had send payment for my cell to her. Am on her plan. Come to find out I must have forgotten with so much going on. My son was in the hospital last week, because he thought he might be having a heart attack. Then other things the last few days. It's been a nightmare. I'm not sure which way to even jump. I have a couple of more days off, and I have to get as much done as possible.

I feel so bad... wish I lived closer and could help. Good you found where the car was taken and what a miracle she lived. It is a tricky thing to deal with, when it comes to seizures.... and medication. I was put on medicine that the side effect is weight gain, and the doctor got upset I gained weight. Duh... He also gave me medicine that had citrus and aspertane in it and I told him they were no no's for me. Spent $100 in a copay.. and knew right after I took it, something was not right. So I go in the office and he says, you didn't use that did you. And I said no not after the first does as it had citrus and aspartane. UGH... Just like in every other profession, there a good ones and not so good ones. I'll be praying for you all.. and don't worry about babbling on, I do it all the time.. :) Hugs to you both!

I just hope somewhere along the line we can get her right on meds, and figure out if it's strokes or seizures for sure. I think the hospital said they thought it was a seizure, but they may only be repeating what Reba had said. It doesn't appear they did much. Only took some xrays and said she's fine, she can go home. Top it off the ambulance guy was going to give her morphine. Fortunately she realized it, and told them she has severe reactions to it.

How terrifying for you! We have a hospital like that near here. It's like they forget they are dealing with people instead of a number.

Yup your just a number. She kept asking them about contacting her family, and they told her not to worry about it. How screwed up is that? They weren't concerned till she was ready to be discharged. In the meantime I had no clue where she was. Couldn't even find out when she was admitted. The nurse said she just got on duty, and didn't know much. They said they didn't know she had a coil in her head. Well gee she couldn't say much for obvious reasons. She was half out of it. Can't beleive the sherriff didn't give her, her cell, or he didn't use it to call home. She told him about her cell. I would have known sooner. Instead I was worried, and frighten not knowing anything. Doesn't it make sense if someone is alone, that family wouldn't know? This stupity irks me to the core.

Dee, I offer my sympathy and empathy, dear. I am so sorry for Reba and you. My first wish is that she is not badly hurt and will get better soon. Then, that the whole car situation gets worked out. I will be keeping you both in my thoughts.

Thank you Debbie. Her left eye is badly bruised, and swollen. Her back is hurting her. But she already has serious back issues. Don't know if this made it worse. Her emotional state is more what I'm worried about right now. Taking it one step at a time. Don't know what else to do.

Hugz girl! And thank you for caring so. She has an appointment with her local MD tomorrow at 2p. I should be back from taking her daughter to her doctor in time to take Reba. Her daughter has been suffereing from serious migraines, and frequent periods. Reba is afraid she made have what she had years ago. Reba ended up with a hysterectomy it was so bad. Pills to stop it didn't work. They haven't determined if her daughter has the same thing yet. Think that's what this appointment is for. So I don't know which way either of this is going to go. Fortunately I am off from work, to pull that off.

So glad you can help w/ Reba's daughter. What a day you will have! I read the post from August Lady and your reply. I hope you are documenting all the treatment you got from the hospital (or lack thereof). When things get a little calmer, maybe you could research attorneys and find out if you have a case. I know it will be a daunting task, but it might need to be done. Sounds like this hospital treats people badly because THEY CAN get away w/ it. Take care.

I might consider that if things ever calm down. But I seriously doubt anything can be done. Seems all you can do is complain. If they gave her meds that they knew she shouldn't have had, it may be grounds for a suit. Or if she ended up in a life threathening situation because of improper care.This can only be construed as very bad service, I think. She has been in just about every hospital around here. The one in Tennessee for the brain anuerysm was the best till the end when communications were getting screwed up, with discharge. The administration at the last hospital in Nov was informed. Of course all she got was appologies, and that they are understaffed, but they will see what they can do. Gag! Yeah right.
My son was in the ER last week with chest pains that wouldn't let up. They did a battery of test. They said they couldn't tell him anything and to follow up with his local MD. How screwed up is that? To top it off he has to figure out how he is going to pay that bill. He has no insurance, and I'm sure they will say he makes to much. At best even if your low income, you might be able to get the hospital bill waved, but not for any of the doctors who came to see you while you were there, or for the xrays, and scans. I know, because I went through it. I even had insurance at the time. What they didn't pay, I had to pay all those doctors, and test. You just get releived of the bill for laying in the ER.

The situation w/ Reba and all the other events you've shared really shows you how screwed up our health care system is. I don't have insurance either. I haven't had to go to the dr. for anything, thank goodness. But, stress is doing number on me. Thank goodness for my gym...the treadmill keeps me somewhat sane!

No insurance for me either Deb. I've had to deal with issues, using over the counter meds, and try to ignore pain. Even clinics do little to nothing. They like ER's are nothing but a mere bandaid. Sometimes barely that. This computer is about all I have for stress relief, and that barely cuts it. And I agree our health system is royally screwed up. The more I am getting her to remember what she can, the more ticked off I am getting.

It's a mess right now. Not sure how things are going to work out. Her being unable to drive to doctor appointments for her or her daughter is a big problem, because we live in a rural area, and have pretty much no help. I work almost 40 miles away from home, so that makes it harder. And that's where the doctors are no less. Except a local MD who can't do much for her. Thanks for stopping by Peter.

As far as the hospital, I wouldn't hesitate to file a complaint~your treatment was atrocious!

Yup here we go again. Not that I'm faulting Reba. These dam doctors are good for just pushing meds. Reba is so upset. Been trying to calm her down off and on. That hospital is a dam joke. The other closest one is no better. Someone should have made contact sooner. Don't know why the sherriff diodn't use her cell to call anyone. She was able to ask for her cell, but all she had with her at the hospital was her purse. No contact was made till they decided to discharge her. Hello she was alone! Obviously no family member would have known where she was. In the meantime I was home worried out of my skull, knowing something had to be wrong. This isn't the first time a hospital didn't know what the other hand was doing. When she had another stroke in Nov, they switch shifts (different hospital then last night) and the information on test wasn't left for the next shift. I sat with her in the dam ER for almost 7 hours, for them to just tell her to see a nuero doctor. They said there was a spot on her right side. Duh! We told them she had surgery and a coil was put in. And the area they pointed to is where they bored into her skull to put it in. She sat waiting for hours for anyone at one point, to even come into the room. I couldn't even find anyone on the floor half the time to ask what was going on. Like that experience wasn't bad enough, last night the poor woman gets a repeat proformace from another ER.
The tow truck driver, (we finally found out where the vehicle was this morning) said he got the call at around 3:30 p. So that means she was already enroute to the ER. I get the call at 6:35P to come and get her to be discharged. They didn't care till it was time for her to go. And she was so out of it from whatever they gave her, she couldn't walk. They didn't even offer to wheel her to the exit. Just like the dam last time she was at that hospital. Hell then she had nothing on her feet. She was rushed from home in her night clothes. They didn't offer any socks, till I said something.

What a nightmare & the not calling is unacceptable~not sure what type of insurance you have, but I would discuss this with them to see if you have any recourse. Sometimes all it takes is a complaint for medical facilities to "clean up their act!"

Lovely...Gather is eating comments again...sighs. She is on disability, and has Medicare. I suppose they can be informed. But doubt they will give a hoot.

Just realizing after talking to her, we don't know now for sure if it was a stroke or seizure. Hospital didn't say anything.

Call them and get answers. This is why I don't like/trust hospitals.

Hopefully we can get that info tomorrow. Have to be at that same hospital in the early hours to take her daughter. After that I will be taking Reba to her local MD. And a boatload of other things afterwards.

I'm so sorry all this is happening dee. Just hang in there and take one day at a time. It sounds like your doing all you can for her. I hope things get better.

I didn't have an seizure. I had a chronic cva. chronic stroke the doctors said on paper. :(

That's what the hospital papers state. Mind you we didn't even know because we found out this when looking at the papers in Spanish. However since getting back from the local MD, he seems to think you had a seizure. This is really screwy. What makes it even odder he is disagreeing with the same hospital he works in on the days his office isn't open. Hopefully this next round of test, will finally settle it.
