Was Abraham Lincoln gay? I just watched the History Channel and they strongly alluded to the fact that Lincoln may have been gay because he slept with his best friend for four years, and that man was not his wife.

I don'think it matters but what does matter is thata whatever his sexual orientation is or was was a part of his private life. To me that is the issue. I object to gay pride parades,, and I would object to any parades that was exhibitionist in nature.

Even if Lincoln was gay, what does that have to do with a gay pride parade? You made a rather loose connection between whether Lincoln was gay and about gay pride. And frankly, if gays want to have a parade, there is nothing wrong with that. Pretty much anything ever said by Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, or any one of a number of bigoted conservatives is far more offensive than any gay pride parade could ever be.

Sure they can have parades if they want. We just don't get why anyone wants to have a parade about the kind of sex they have in the bedroom. That's personal and doesn't belong in a parade.

I don't know....

My grandmother told me that there were many instances in her parent's and grandparent's day (which would have been around the same time as Lincoln, I believe) that people of the same sex might sleep in the same beds....if there was no other sleeping arrangement available.

Who knows whether Lincoln was or wasn't. At least he didn't participate in parades.

Beds weren't plentiful and cold in the winter may have been a good reason for anyone, same sex or not, to sleep in close proximity. Children slept together and often with parents also. It was a matter of survival. Whether he was gay or not is a matter of speculation but who knows.

So true Denise, it was NOT uncommon for men/boys/brothers to sleep together and woman to sleep together- it was the way it was, and back then, no one thought a thing odd about it. When I would spend the night, with my best girlfriend, we both slept in her twin bed! I had to sleep with my sister, but our brothers were fortunate enough to have twin beds.

People didn't have sex driven in their minds, on a daily basis, as we and our children do now. Today, every first thought is about sex. How times have changed.

The only parade I've ever seen which could be called exhibitionist was at Mardi Gras. Even the audience got into exposing themselves for cheesy strands of plastic beads.

I have seen no convincing evidence that he was gay.

it was not uncommon to share a bed in those days - it didn't mean anything, except that beds were expensive

I slept with my best friend and she was female. There was nothing to that. Plus I don't think that his private life should be put on display. I mean yeah they do that with everyone now and today we use that to judge if they're a good politician but it's wrong

During the depression many people lost their homes and stayed with relatives as well. I had a friend who told me she slept on the floor in the kitchen with the dog... as her mothers house was full of relatives and she was an adult at the time. She said they passed a plate for the dog and people put on it what they didn't want or were willing to forgo.

I know my late day said he and his brothers shared a bed, and his uncle had no place and slept there too.. I think it was one way to keep warm. I know my Dad said they would walk along the railroad tracks looking for coal that fell off... and when they went ice skating my Great Aunt lent them her skates and they all took turns ... He was the oldest son of six.

Seems you have been schooled already but I will say I do not understand how you get from Lincoln to dissing Gay Pride parades. In one sentence you are standing up for privacy in the issue and in the next sentence, same paragraph you are objecting to Gay Pride Parades.......just does not make sense here!

It made sense. What is private about a parade, your sex life should be private.

Agreeing is another matter, but it made sense. Not sure preferring not to have some leather queen waving his dick from a float on a public street is homophobia.

Unlike most exhibitions of our hypersexualized culture, though, you can probably duck it.

As far as Gay Lincoln goes, I doubt it, the same thing has been said of Hitler and Jesus. It's such a small part of what they were.

Wife, offspring put the logsplitter in the straight column, I figure.

I swear they should call this place Gayther, it's an obsession here.

I agree your sex life should be private, I have not been to a Gay Pride Parade but have seen them on TV and have decided I would avoid such spectacles for myself.....I have gay friends and relatives so that is not an issue with me, I just did not see how she gets from speculating about Lincoln to a Gay Pride Parade....
Yes Richard, just my opinion, I know he is an American citizen just like Romney is!
