You say you want to know my life
But is this really what you want
For I have traveled far and wide
Facing demons that often daunt
From birth until the present time
I may run but I cannot hide
These ruts in my road make me strong
They impede but cause me no wrong
I just continue with my climb
Humming my quiet, favorite song
I am a survivor, you see
I thought that I would be a wife
Or travel on a special jaunt|
Perhaps to be a blooming bride|
Live in a fancy house to flaunt
Indeed my life would be so prime
But none of this is what’s inside
My fondest wish was to belong
And be happy for a lifelong
Feel my heart when it starts to chime
Hoping my love would come along
I am a survivor, you see
My life has been filled with some strife
Some memories still tend to haunt
But still I raise my head with pride
And forget those who used to taunt
Show only feelings in pantomime
Not one to conquer and divide
The sting as if pricked by a prong
Looking for ways to not prolong
In wordless acts quite like a mime
While the gawkers come out in throng
I am a survivor, you see
Mere words can draw blood like a knife
Many people just like to vaunt
While others I have met have lied
As they act very nonchalant
And pretend they have done no crime
Averting their eyes to the side
As I walk by in my sarong
Smirking as if they sense a pong
Looking sour like the taste of lime
As I continue on, headstrong
I am a survivor, you see
I believe in the afterlife
I was not a great debutante
Only a few will I confide
Always been somewhat a savant
With learning being quite sublime
And in my words, I do preside
Waking others with a loud gong
When my words become overlong
Seems, life does sure turn on a dime
And this poem lasts a near daylong
I am a survivor, you see
I know my struggles are agelong
But I do not fear the furlong
Keep my life out of any grime
My actions will not be headlong
I am a survivor, you see
