Just a few short hours ago, 6:30PM Eastern, I saw my daughter off on a Delta flight to Germany. Her new in-laws, SIL, and Dad were also on hand to see dd off to join her husband of 4 months, whom she hasn't seen since their wedding. I was pretty sure of what would happen despite the levity of the afternoon~the 1-hour trip to Logan airport & all the jerky stuff I said, me tripping on the moving walkway (twice!) that sent DD & her SIL on their knees laughing both times, the calamity of going thru security...
We had well over an hour wait 'til boarding...It started with the 1st call for her flight for Zone 1 (she was Zone 3), & I started tearing up~DD noticed right away, but thought it was funny. By the time they called her Zone, I was pretty much a wreck, hugging her when she finally got in line (she was the last 1), with everyone else getting their hugs in as the line progressed. I got one last hug, reminded her of what I told her, and begged her to "Just be careful!" I watched her 'til she disappeared from view. And, we stayed another 1/2 hour 'til the plane did the same...

So happy to report that DD made it safely to Germany~I was able to track her flight via Real Time Flight Tracker, which was way cool, watching the plane as it was 1/3, 1/2. 3/4 the way there. Ryan met her in Nuremberg as planned, & the newlyweds have finally been reunited. She's called via WiFi at least a 1/2 dozen times, but we've been disconnected each time. At least, we know she reached he destination in Vilseck, Germany.

Almost forgot, the tie-in to the title of this post...As I stated above, we decided to stay until dd's plane took off. And, when it finally started moving out of it's parking space, there was this vehicle with wheels kinda moving the plane along. Of course, I had to ask, "What's that thingy in front?" Her FIL was quick on the buzzer, explaining to me that's how they back the planes out, since "Planes can't go in reverse!" I'm sure many would consider this a "Duh" moment, but to me it was, "You learn something new every day!"

Are you ok?
Feeling guilty for not recovering as quickly as you did, & my son is finally passed out, thank God! He literally stayed up for two days, calling the nurses station every few hours so he'd be ready when I came home even though we all told him it would be a couple of days, LOL. He's a sweet boy, but I wish he wouldn't worry so much!
Only time reverse is needed is on the ground. Not needed in the sky, so no point in adding unneeded weight to the plane to burn more fuel.
Lol, I've never flown, but maybe some day I'll get up the nerve~hey, if DD can do it...
You are not missing much, except almost instantaneous point to point travel, bordering upon time travel.
