To say country singer Mindy McCready had a rough life is putting it lightly. No, the once super famous singer had a very tumultuous life, perhaps made worse from the fame that she received for belting out tunes like "Ten Thousand Angels" and "Guys Do It All the Time."
News of the apparent suicide broke Sunday night on Twitter (much like Whitney Houston's death) by a Nashville area reporter. While initially there was no solid proof, some were holding out hope that the reports were not true. However, the New York Daily News has received confirmation from the star's brother that she had indeed passed away saying, "The 37-year-old singer died Sunday night, her brother confirmed to the Daily News."
Not only did her brother confirm the news, but also the Cleburne County Sherriff's department who released a statement reading:
"At 3:31 PM, Sunday, February 17th Deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a report of gun shots fired in the area of 1132 Fox Chase Drive in Heber Springs. Officers arrived on the scene at 3:58 PM and discovered the body of 37 year old Melinda Gayle McCready on the front porch of the residence at 1132 Fox Chase. Ms. McCready was pronounced dead at the scene from what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound. At this time family members have been notified of the incident. Ms. McCready will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy and the matter will be fully investigated."
Unfortunately, many people weren't surprised by the news, but that doesn't mean they were any less sad. Suicide is always tragic and the fact that she had two young sons makes this story even worse. While many fans tweeted their condolences, fellow country singers did the same, showing respect for McCready.
Jason Aldean tweeted, "Just heard about MindyMcCready. My thoughts and prayers are with her 2 boys and her family."
Darius Rucker also tweeted his condolences saying, "My love and prayers go out to Mindy Mccreedy's family."
Superstar singer Carrie Underwood expressed her pain saying, "I grew up listening to MindyMcCready...so sad for her family tonight. Many prayers are going out to them..."
It wasn't as if the country singer didn't try to get help, though. In 2009, she appeared on Dr. Drew's Celebrity Rehab. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that the show did much to help her and Mindy McCready is now the fifth star to appear on the show who has died. While the stint with Dr. Drew was in 2010, her most recent rehabilitation attempt was involuntary but said to have been "eye opening." Last month, her boyfriend (and father to one of her sons) committed suicide, leaving the country singer severely depressed. As a result, she had both of her kids taken from her while she went to rehab. Even though the stint may have slightly helped her, it seems she was unable to overcome all of her demons.
The 37-year-old leaves behind two sons; one nine months old and another six years old.
