The 50 Shades of Grey movie has a new flavor of the moment—Magic Mike actor Alex Pettyfer. The sexy star was recently suggested for the role of Christian Grey's brother Elliot, but now he's being linked to Christian's character instead.
It makes sense that some fans would think that Alex would make a better Christian. He can come off as being arrogant and cold, so it would probably be difficult for him to play a fun guy like Elliot. Alex is definitely hot enough to play Mr. Grey, and Wetpaint writes of the actor's attitude, "He does seem to have quite a bad boy reputation, which could work well in the role."
Alex Pettyfer is a bit young to play Christian Grey since he's just 22, and his age might make it hard for him to win over Fifty fans—they seem more interested in seeing an older actor like Alex's Magic Mike costar Matt Bomer or The Vampire Diaries hottie Ian Somerhalder cast as their dream guy. Christian is a troubled character who can seem much older than his 27 years, so it's not surprising that fans keep gravitating towards actors in their 30s.
Alex is an extremely good-looking guy, but he seems to have a hard time winning over women. He tried to appeal to the Twilight crowd in Beastly and I Am Number Four, but he just couldn't achieve the same sex symbol status as Robert Pattinson. Maybe his acting is just that bad, or maybe too many women have read reports about his bad behavior.
Whatever the case may be, it's hard to see Alex getting cast as Christian in the 50 Shades of Grey movie—he's just too immature and doesn't have enough of a fan following. He looks like an especially bad option when compared to a charitable, caring guy like Ian Somerhalder. Matt Bomer might also be a Fifty fave because he comes off as being a friendly, approachable celeb. Perhaps women respond well to the idea of a real-life good guy playing Christian because the thought of a real-life narcissistic d-bag whipping a woman is extremely appalling. They don't want a guy to play Christian who actually enjoys what the character does to Anastasia Steele—it's demeaning and a little scary.
So do you think that Alex's bad boy reputation hurts him or helps him in the competition for the role of Christian?
