I always say I want to take you out of your comfort zone and I think this week’s challenge will do that for many of us.
It’s the third Saturday of the month and that means we’re going to be responding to a challenge from one of you.
In October, Michael Fishman submitted (Saturday Writing Essential) Let Them Eat and that’s what we’re doing this week.
There might be other places where you’d find this challenge, but I know we’ve never done this on SatWE.
Good luck!
* * *
Len wants us to write a challenge, says it’s time for us to think. What would we want were up to us? No holds barred, add the kitchen sink.
Well I can’t think my brain is stuck it feels like gloppy glue. Or more precise, if you don’t mind, a pot of cheese fondue.
With that in mind do you really think I can develop a set of instructions? Or do you think an attempt to try would lead to a cerebral obstruction?
Either way, my mind’s made up, there’s nothing else to do. I’m sitting back with pen in hand and leaving it all up to you.
This Week’s Challenge:
So here’s your challenge, lovely reader, should you decide to partake: share with me a recipe for a rich, dark chocolate cake.
Preferably one with chocolate chips and maybe peanut butter too. After that, I don’t care, the rest is up to you.
Ideas:
This is so outside my own comfort zone that I wouldn’t have any idea how to give you an idea.
This does not lend itself well to poetry but we have some very accomplished poets and I’d love to see a recipe written in poetry.
You also have the option of using the chocolate cake as a metaphor for something. What? I don't know, it's your story.
Watch Out For:
Um, uh, what about... no that won’t work. Oh, how about... nope, that won’t work either.
I just don’t know; Michael’s asking for a recipe and writing such things is definitely one of the writing genres. Go for it!
Recap:
I asked for it and, wow, you delivered. This is a great selection and all the authors would appreciate your reading their work.

The Rules:
- Put this challenge statement at the beginning or end of your submission so readers will know what you’re supposed to do.

Now taste it. You will either (a) think you've been transported to heaven and devour the cake or (b) find yourself shaking hands with a grinning Mr Beelzebub.
Swooping down onto the lanai, he shouted, “Tarzan home.” Only then did he notice Cheeta cowering in the corner covering his eyes with his hands.
Tarzan carefully stepped into the hut, looked around, and then stared at the center of the table. “What that?” he demanded.
“Oh, Tarzan, I’m so glad you’re home. I’ve made you a wonderful dessert.”
Tarzan pointed and repeated, “What that?”
“It’s your chocolate cake.”
“That not chocolate.”
“Oh, silly, I frosted it with vegemite so we could work on lowering your cholesterol.”
Jane never knew that an entire cake could be crammed into her mouth.
And Tarazan never knew that it was Cheeta who'd hurled the rolling pin with such force that the King of the Apes found himself shaking hands with a fiendishly cackling Mr Beelzebub.
This is an interesting prompt. I hope to see the submission.
Thank you for submitting to: Not Gathering Dust!
The chocolate chips lay on the table

How in the world did you think of that sssssssss word?
I can't feature this but I can certainly list it next week on my column, Richard.
Just a great challenge and I hope to see lots of chocolatey ideas in the posts.
Kudos, Michael.
Does red velvet count in the chocolate category? My favorite type of chocolate cake. Outside of chocolate chocolate chocolate cake.
Richard's poem is perfect for this. Got quite a chuckle from it.
