The 50 Shades of Grey movie's casting list for Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele is growing by the day. Of course there are your run-of-the-mill lower-end D- and C-listers hoping there is a chance to be discovered but honestly, that's not going to happen. Then, there are your B-listers who've gotten their break and can be recognized by some thanks to a TV show like Ian Somerhalder and then there are you're A-listers whose fans are sure they're perfect for the part. But, it's all up to the casting director and movie producers etc. 50 Shades fans will just have to wait and see.
In the mean time, here's a rundown of who you think would be a good fit. Whoever is cast as Christian Grey's character must be able to exude confidence and intimidation in a seductive way. He will have to be able to persuade audiences that he's a tortured soul searching for an erotic escape.
Ian Somerhalder leads the running with his fans petitioning for him. Their hearts would break if he didn't get the role, but he doesn't fit the role entirely. There's a brightness in his eyes that betrays the darkness of Grey.
But there are other hopefuls, so many others. Here are the next top two: Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer. Cavill is best known for his role in Immortals and The Tudors. Could he pull off being a tortured soul? Yes, the screen loves his intensity. It is one of the traits which distinguishes him from the pack.
Matt Bomer is best known for White Collar and a few big time movies, In Time and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning. He even had a recurring role on Guiding Light back in 2003, but he's less known than Somerhalder and Cavill. Still, he's a good match, right?
All three men have similar features: dark hair, sharp jawlines, and are great at their craft. However, like beauty being in the eyes of the beholder. Their fans could easily argue over why one is a better fit over the others for the role of Grey.
Now, onto the casting of Anastasia Steel, the top three contenders are Alexis Bledel, Lucy Hale, and Emilia Clarke. The 50 Shades of Grey movie would be a wonderful addition to any of their resumes. Steel's character must be naïve, young, curious, and hopeful. She yearns to discover more as she dabbles in dark pleasures divided by fear and wanting more. It's that turmoil all young women find themselves in at one point or another.
Alexis Bledel is a good fit because she captures that innocence perfectly with her big blue eyes. This role would be a pleasant departure from the roles she usual takes on. Bledel is best known as Rory from Gilmore Girls. She's been in several movies and made appearances in some TV shows, but she's yet to become a household name.
Next up is Lucy Hale. She has the same large eyes as Bledel but with more darkness. It's hard to say one is better than the other. Hale is best known as Aria Montgomery in Pretty Little Liars. She's one of the perfect little liars of her show.
Finally, there is Game of Thrones' Emilia Clarke. She doesn't have an extensive resume like Bledel and Hale but she maybe the jewel needed to bring Steele to life.
The 50 Shades of Grey movie has as many shades of actors and actresses waiting and hoping for the role as Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. Casting is made more difficult by so many of the same type of person but each brings their own unique take and abilities to the table. Of Henry Cavill, Matt Bomer.
