My point here is that the NRA is supposed to act on the wishes of NRA members, but does not. For example, as the above poll states, the overwhelming majority of NRA members want universal background checks for anyone purchasing a gun. But Wayne LaPierre and company do not, and are using the $ and the political clout of the NRA to enforce positions with which their members do not agree.
Why is this still happening? Well, obviously the membership of the NRA takes a hands off approach to the organization. They ARE the organization- and yet they have handed the reins to guys with which they disagree on significant issues. This could change- but there is no evidence that it is changing, yet. While NRA members are a bit more paranoid than the average USA gun owner, they are not nearly as paranoid as their leadership. But again, if you buy the microphone and hand it to a guy, then disagree with what he is yelling, it's your microphone. All you have to do is take it out of his hand. What's he gonna do, shoot you?
Unfortunate choice of words, sorry.

The NRA cares only about one thing - helping gun corporations sell more guns. Which is why it has engaged in a long-standing fear campaign to scare the most paranoid, insecure members of society into acting irrationally and irresponsibly.
It is definitely time for hunters and sportsmen and women to stand up for honesty and for responsibility. Which means fighting the corporate lobbyist that is the NRA.
