...Alas, poor Yorick, we new King Richard III not well.
And under a parking lot his meatless bones do dwell
whether in Heaven or hell does he dwell
for 5 pounds, you can park your car for a spell.
OK, that was my weekly feeble attempt at poetry today.
...Richard the 3rd ruled for just about 2 years during the "War of the roses."
...Doesn't that name suggest that just gardeners went to war? Unfortunately, that was not the case.
...He did institute reforms like the right to have bail, and gave more freedom to books, and printing. (Somewhat a US 1st amendment light, speaking figuratively.)
...They may have found his current resting place.
...Alas, he knows not what goes on now.
...What may happen is anyones guess.
...But go quick so you can say that you had parking fit for a King.
...There is a lot more info there, mostly from the "Richard the 3rd society,"
...He was the LAST Monarch to die in combat while in office.

Your very welcome.
And I want to thank you for posting a comment on my post.
I really do appreciate that.
I an sure that one day there will be those who extol Nixon as a great President.
opened up trade with CHina, ended the Vietnam war, ended the military draft, and balanced the budget.
He also took us off of the "gold standard."
He may have been the last one to have balanced the budget? I do NOT know if there was a "national debt back then, but that is a big possibility.
There was indeed a national debt back then. As has been the case with all Presidents some of what he did was good and some was bad. We are still suffering from the end of the military draft. Do you really think we would have gone to war if the children of the upper middle class would have been exposed to the draft?
What a silly question you pose there.
Viet Nam is often called the working hero's war because so many white kids who came from higher socio-economic backgrounds evaded the draft. If it hadn't been for the draft, there wouldn't have been enough people volunteering to join the military to have a war is more like it.
But don't worry, we haven't learned because from what I see, I think they're going to bring it back. It's so shameful to belong to this human group sometimes.
Without the draft there would not have been the strong opposition to the war.
I've got to hand it to you, Larry. You come up with some doozies. No, that's absolutely not so. Although people were objecting to the draft, one of the main reasons they objected to it was because of the fruitless nature of the war itself. So the opposition to the war itself and the draft were somewhat conflated since people objected to conscription in a war they didn't believe in, but had there been no draft, there would not have been enough to fight in that war so we wouldn't have been able to extend it for over 8 years.
Remember all those college students that burned draft cards and protested by skipping classes? Where were they during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars? Since they didn't / don't have to serve they don't care. I was in college (student and faculty) during those years and I remember what they said and did.
And so what good did it do them to protest then, anyway? The war went on and on, and the kids who did not have the luxury of playing protester in college between parties and classes were the working class kids who had no choice but to go to war, as I basically said above.
They were not all grown up in 1963-5 when the war was expanding. By 1968 they were protesting in large numbers.
I answered you that the ones who were protesting against the Viet Nam war were all grown-up. And they were past grown up by the starts of those wars, but it was sort of a joke, anyway.
I think you just didn't want to answer my question, but that's okay, Larry. I'm kind of tired tonight and I don't have as much patience as when we started this earlier today.
What good did it do them? Not much. Violent, direct opposition almost never achieves its aims.
Tell that to all of Europe...HELL, tell that to the whole World.
I'll tell you where, Larry, since you've asked.
We weren't killing their Brethren, the Commie...so they hadn't a care...that's where.
It seems to have started during the depression and has been building since then.
...ALL of the numbers were in the hundreds, a few times, like the TET offensive, we had more than 1 thousand wounded.
...I was against the war. Not for being there, but the way it is fought. A "holding war," a war fought NOT to win, is one that will always be lost.
...IF we played poker that way, we would be broke quickly.
...There are some that opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but MOST opposition to the war ended with 9-11.
...Now France is in a war in a former colony in Africa, I forget the name.
...ALquaida has a hold of a good part of that country, which had a small army of about 1,000. They are also in several African countries like Somalia as well.
...If France is fighting, and winning, what is next? Victory?
Probably hugging and waving off their grandchildren as they left for their tour of duty for their country Larry.
France is fighting Islamic terrorists in Mali. At the moment they are carrying out many air strikes in the Northern mountain area just North of a place called Kidal where the terrorists have fallen back to.
...There was an underground "railroad" taking those who wanted out of the country, but couldn't afford the air fare, to get at least to Canada.
...I took part as a "conductor" taking someone from a point of "first contact;" to somewhere they would meet the next "stop;" where their ride would continue.
...I do NOT fault someone who's conciseness won't allow them to kill others in a war that should not have been fought that way,. I helped more than 75 to flee, yet I enlisted.
...One difference is that we are not shown combat from the front like we were in the 60's, with each night; every news cast showing some combat footage.
...Plus, without the "9-11" event, there was basically no reason to be there, supporting another dictator.
>and it was him.
