Didn't expect it to be funny.

 A lot of you know my mother, who is 53, has dementia and has for some while. She's gotten to the point where she can't often speak in sentences, and when she does they make no sense.

 There is also this liquor commercial for Southern Comfort, whatever type of liquor it is (I don't know). And in the commercial there is a rather large, older, hairy, shirtless man in swim trunks and loafers walking across the beach with a glass of Southern Comfort in his hand.

 So we're sitting in my parent's living room and that commercial comes on. When it was over my mom looked at me and says, "That's so wrong."

 It had me and my dad in stitches. I mean the woman can't speak in sentences that make sense, but this commercial got to her psyche enough to say that. lol

Southern Comfort is a whiskey. It has been around for years. Tastes great.

I don't drink. So I don't pay attention.
I don't drink either. But when I use to go to the bars (Like 20 years ago), this was known as a women's whiskey because it wasn't as hard as the rest of the whiskey's. I do however remember any guy who did drink it being made fun of.

Actually, it is as hard as plain bourbon (80 proof), but doesn't taste as strong. It has been spiced and sweetened (it used to come with rock candy at the bottom of the bottle). This was Janis Joplin's drink of choice. She would put away a fifth at every performance.

In my experience, there is nothing that will give you a more severe hangover than Southern Comfort.

My one and only black out was from drinking that.. haven't had it since.
Yeah, the sweetness is what made people think it wasn't as hard as other liquors. I use to be a pretty regular Southern Comfort drinker myself back in the days when I was much younger and before kids era. I don't drink nothing now. Except water, soda, or coffee.

God Bless her heart.. Dementia at her young age..This is sad but it sometimes is amazing what some people who has it will say.

She kind of reminds me of my daughter with her brain injury, you just never know what will come out of her mouth......I would have been in stitches, too.....Her comment was perfect!

I'm so glad you guys get at least a little humor from your tragic situation. But, if you think about it, old guy with glass of southern comfort on the beach, yieaah, thats so wrong.

I know what you mean! I had my 93 year old grandmother living with me until she died last year and she had dementia. She would say the funniest things without realizing it. I wrote a series of "conversations with my grandmother" here at Gather. You should keep a journal of her funny sayings. It will mean a lot to you.

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!! I have worked in several seniors homes, and been around old people all my life, and believe me, that's definitely funny!!

She is still in there. Probably was something she would have also said twenty years ago. I guess I learned a lot about Southern Comfort from reading some of the responses.

I like to think her mind, her soul, what makes her, her, is up in Heaven. And I'm just caring for the body that didn't go with her. It's not the way it really is, but it makes me feel better.

My late mother did the same kind of things. She didn't know she had alzheimer or she forgot she did. When it came on tv that Ronald Reagan had alzheimers she said, "That poor man"... and it was sad, but also kinda funny she understood it. Most the time she couldn't tell me what she wanted for breakfast and I would bring her things until she would eat it.
