the eternal human

I oft times find myself thinking that I ought to write an essay on "the eternal right winger."  Because this has gone on just about far enough.  We need to expose these people for what they are before they do even more damage.  But then I'm instantly reminded of a couple of items:

1.) The Nazi propaganda film "The Eternal Jew." Ouch. Don't want get into that mode of thinking.
2.) Every single item I would put on "the eternal right winger" list is item per item exactly what the eternal right wingers have already put on their list of complaints with "the eternal liberal".  I might get accused of plagarism.

The eternal conservative / liberal:

Your eternal conservative/liberal never argues on the basis of logic, reason, or evidence. No. Your eternal conservative/liberal is only about demeaning liberals/conservatives.

Liberal-think / Conservative-think is a kind of mental illness. I swear this sickness of spirit and thought is like a cancer on the nation.

They organize their entire world view around their sacred assumptions that they'd never in a million years dream of examining with a critical eye.

They scruptulously filter reality so as to re-inforce their sacred assumptions.

They tend to surround themselves with with those who reinforce their sacred assumptions.

They don't understand the difference between their sacred assumptions and their sacred core values. They defend their sacred assumptions as those they are sacred core values.

They just go on believing their sacred assumptions no matter what evidence to the contrary comes their way. They'd sooner go down with the Titanic than admit to themselves their ship is sinking.

These danged eternal liberals / conservatives are a menace that could sink the republic, maybe civilization itself.

You know.  For the sake of brevity, I'll just substitute the word "human" for "liberal/conservative" from here on.

Your eternal human tends to imagine that tribal instincts are rational.
