The garden's treasures come out of the earth

Mushrooms and truffles taste of dirt

Grapes for wine need soil

There's dirt in my adobe walls

And mud in my salon facial

Dirt is deliciously vital

No house cleaning today

Time to dig up some worms

And hang up the sign

"Gone Fishing"

My sister wrote a beautiful poem about us as children called "Red Dirt Girls." The
red dirt refers to the red soil of our great grandparents' farm in Oklahoma.

i can really relate to this. A few years ago, I planted some seeds in our front garden. I loved putting my fingers through the dirt and planting the little guys in their beds, and then watching the little boys and girls grow, putting a rod to guide them, as they were in kindergarten.. not much growth out of them, really, because I bought seeds in williamsburg, a different zone from me, but the little sprites that grew were good little tykes.

I was reading on Yahoo there's a restaurant in Tokyo that makes all its entrees with dirt as an ingredient for $110 a plate. I still like getting dirty. It washes off...I'm not sure how to clean up my mind, though. :) I love in the spring when it suddenly gets its aroma back.
