On 02/15/2013, asteroid 2012 DA14 will make a close encounter with Earth. The asteroid is half the size of a football field. It will be a mere 17,200 miles from Earth when it flies by. According to NASA, there is no danger of the asteroid colliding with our planet. It is, however, the largest object to get this close since regular sky surveys began in the 1990's.
