Jennifer Lawrence probably raised plenty of eyebrows when she thanked MTV while accepting her Best Female Actor Award at the SAG Awards, but luckily she quickly explained why she had to pay tribute to the network responsible for introducing the world to Snooki, teen moms behaving badly, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, and boozing "buckwild" rednecks.
The Oscar-nominated actress explained her shout out to the
network that used to play music videos by saying, "I earned my SAG card when I was 14. I did an MTV promo for My Super Sweet 16. And I remember getting it in the mail and it being the best day in my entire life, because it officially made me a professional actor."
My Super Sweet 16 was all about spoiled, rich, bratty girls and guys spending mega bucks to throw the biggest and best sweet 16 parties ever. Even though they always got almost everything they wanted, the teens would manage to find something to cry and complain about that would keep their big days from being absolutely perfect.
Luckily E! Online managed to dig up a video featuring Jennifer Lawrence's My Super Sweet 16 commercials. In one of the ads, she makes a big entrance by having four guys carry her into her sweet 16 party on a portable bed like she's Cleopatra. Her royal entrance gets ruined when she falls off the bed. In the second commercial, Jen's super special cake gets destroyed by a disco ball. Jen has certainly come a long way since her MTV days.
With wins at the SAG Awards win and the Golden Globes, it's looking like Jen might take home Oscar gold. So would she be the first Oscar winner to get her start because of reality TV? Surprisingly she wouldn't—Jennifer Hudson became a star after competing on American Idol, and she eventually took home a little gold man for her work in the movie Dreamgirls.
However, it's still impressive that Jen turned her work in those short little commercials into such an amazing career. You can check out her silly promos for the MTV show below.
