Kofi Atta Annan (born 8 April 1938), Ghanaian diplomat who served as the seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations, from 1 January 1997 to 31 December 2006. Annan and the United Nations were the co-recipients of the 2001 Nobel Peace Prize for his founding of the Global AIDS and Health Fund to support developing countries in their struggle to care for their people. From 23 February until 31 August 2012, Annan was the UN–Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria, to help find a resolution to ongoing conflict there. Annan quit after becoming frustrated with the UN's lack of progress with regard to conflict resolution, stating that "when the Syrian people desperately need action, there continues to be finger-pointing and name-calling in the Security Council."
“Gender equality is more than a goal in itself. It is a
precondition for meeting the challenge of reducing
poverty, promoting sustainable development and
building good governance.”

My most egregious personal experience:
Bought a new pickup, signing the paperwork. Dealer prepped it, I went to pick it up a few days later. My salesperson was out to lunch when I arrived. I told the available salesman I would wait for him to return before I drove it away.
The present salesman got the keys, tried to hand them to me, and suggested I just take it for a spin until my sales guy came back. I said no - I'll wait. He continued insisting that I drive it away before my salesman returned. No, thank you.
While waiting for my salesman to return, I walked around the pickup to admire it further. Oh, oh - there's a ding!
If I had driven it off the lot, they would have claimed the ding occurred after I drove it off their lot. I cancelled the contract, and got a truck at another dealer.
