Kate Upton's Super Bowl ad has the Parents Television Council complaining that it's too sexy for TV. However, others think that the commercial doesn't take advantage of the supermodel's famous assets by flashing enough flesh.
The Mercedes-Benz carwash ad features Kate wearing a somewhat low-cut black tank top over a black bra and a pair of daisy dukes th
at are nowhere near as daring as those that Jessica Simpson wore in The Dukes of Hazzard movie. She tries to be sexy by blowing some foam from her hand and flipping her hair, but her performance falls a little flat.
According to the Daily Mail, some of Kate's male fans are disappointed in the teaser for Super Bowl ad. They've complained that the swimsuit model doesn't show enough skin since she keeps her shirt on, and she doesn't even get wet in the carwash ad—she has a group of guys in football jerseys washing her Mercedes-Benz for her.
But even though Kate is a lot more covered up than she usually is, the PTC is not amused. Here's what a spokeswoman said about the corny commercial:
"This ad [reinforces] for millions of wives, daughters and sisters across the country that you use your sex appeal to get what you want."
At least the PTC understood the direction Mercedes was taking with the ad—a lot of fans don't seem to get that Kate keeping her clothes on is supposed to be a joke.
The commercial starts out with the words, "Kate Upton washes the new Mercedes CLA in slow motion."
Men are supposed to start drooling at the thought of Kate covered in suds while she rubs her body all over the car, but the joke's on them when it's revealed that Kate doesn't have to wash the car herself—she's so sexy that she can convince a group of guys to do it for her (and she doesn't even have to show that much cleavage!).
The ad does look very budget for a Mercedes commercial, but it could have worked well with a little tweaking.
The commercial could also be labeled as sexist, but then Kate's whole career would have to be given the same label. After all, the curvy model does make a living by showing off her body to make men do what she wants. She just usually uses it to make men buy magazines like the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue instead of Mercedes-Benz cars. And she also used it to sell hamburgers in a Carl's Jr. ad that was way sexier than her latest commercial.
