'Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Becoming a Leader in...

Now that Teen Mom has ended, fans still try to keep updated with the girls from the show and, thanks to social networking, it really isn't that hard to do. However, Amber Portwood is currently in prison and does not have those kinds of luxuries. Luckily, Gary Shirley tweets updates about her every so often and now her brother, Shawn Portwood, is sharing an extended update about his sister in his newest blog post.

Shawn has been corresponding with this sister regularly through an email service that Amber (and most all prisoners) have access, too. Through that alone, Shawn has already noticed a change in his sister. When she first went to prison, she didn't have her priorities in line, but her time behind bars has allowed her to put things into perspective.

Most notably, though, is the fact that Amber has completed anger management and is doing incredibly well in regards to her drug rehabilitation. She is on the final step of the program and has done so well that she has been asked to lead the program. How awesome is that? While it may not seem like a big deal to some people, this shows just how dedicated Amber is to getting her life back on track.

Aside from working on her drug and anger issues, she is also focusing on education. She will soon be eligible to take the GED test and hopefully all her hard work has paid off and she will do good. There is no doubt that Amber is thinking long term as she also holds a job in the facility and is even in a supervisor position.

According to Shawn, Amber said, "Right now I'm just thinking about a career and what I am going to do while I am in here and when I get out."

This will help show Leah that, no matter what happens, it is never too late to get a good education and to turn your life around. Even though Amber has made mistakes, hopefully when Leah is older she will be able to look at her mom as an inspiration. Amber Portwood went from 16 & Pregnant, to Teen Mom, to prisoner. While her journey has been a rough one, she is making great strides and people who once berated her are watching her progress.

Another thing that helps people realize just how much Amber is trying to change is probably due to what fans are seeing from one Teen Mom 2 star right now. Like Amber, Jenelle Evans has had both drug and legal issues. Unlike Amber, though, Jenelle never really took action to turn her life around and instead is now pregnant with her second child. There is still hope for Jenelle, though, but hopefully people will see that Amber isn't that bad and that she took the opportunity to fix herself for her daughter and that she deserves a second chance.
