Baileigh Karam, a 14-year-old student from Carlsbad, CA has been missing from home since last week, when a video was posted to Facebook showing her being savagely beaten by a female love rival.
This is every parent's nightmare. Hopefully, the teenager will be found quickly, before anything bad occurs. In this day and age, unfortunately, everything is videotaped and posted online, so the embarrassment of being picked on is multiplied by a thousand. Furthermore, the Internet allows trolls to take pot shots at people with no repercussions.
In the video (below), the other girl repeatedly strikes Baileigh Karam, while a crowd of high school students jeers and eggs on the bully. What's really infuriating, is that the attacker's face is pixellated in the news clip, in order to conceal her identity. Perhaps, people like this should be named and shamed, and let them be tried in the court of public opinion. That would be a great deterrent to this type of despicable behavior.
"A girl and her boyfriend had broken up and Baileigh and the other boy started liking each other and had a connection, and the other girl clearly didn't like that. Then the threats started coming," the missing girl's mother, Karen Karam told a reporter. After the video was put up on Facebook, other kids started posting nasty remarks about the victim.
