What Are We Celebrating Today -- Thursday, January 17, 2013?

I'm so frustrated, and it's STILL raining. Of coarse Lily wants to go out ever couple of hours, which is driving me nuts. I've been in PJ pants.....and took Lily out. That's when I found out that I somehow ripped 'em....right up the back. Nothing like showing the whole world my underwear and tush (sigh). Well, I'm sure my neighbors got a good laugh.

So...what are we celebrating today.....

1). Ditch Your New Years Resolutions Day: If there's a day to celebrate New Years and to make resolutions for the upcoming year, then there should be a day to ditch those resolutions. That's the reason for today.

2). Cable Car Day: A cable car or cable railway is a mass transit system using rail cars that are hauled by a continuously moving cable running at a constant speed. Individual cars stop and start by releasing and gripping this cable as required. This is the day to celebrate the cable car!

3). Kid Inventors' Day: This holiday is celebrated annually on January 17th, the birth anniversary of Benjamin Franklin, who invented the first swim fins almost 300 yrs ago at age 12! So those of you out there with kids give them the opportunity to invent something today. You never know what will happen.

4). Hot Buttered Rum Day: Oh, have to love a drinking holiday. LOL. Hot buttered rum is a toddy (specifically, a rum toddy). Hot buttered rum was a favorite in Colonial America. Rum is a New World spirit, made of molasses, a by-product of sugar refining. Distilleries in the Colonies were making rum from the molasses by the 1650s, and “hot buttered rum” joined the toddies and nogs of English tradition. I don't think I've ever had hot butered rum...hmm....
