On Wednesday, Jenelle Evans stunned the world when news broke that she is pregnant with her second child. Typically, a pregnancy is a welcomed thing, but in the Teen Mom's case, people aren't too thrilled.
The issue is that Jenelle doesn't even have custody of her first child Jace. After getting into trouble time and time again, she signed over her rights to her own mother, Barbara. While Jenelle is looking at her pregnancy as a "second chance" and a way to show people that she can be a good mother to Jace, things aren't really that simple. In fact, it is quite possible that her mother could gain custody of her second child as well and it wouldn't be that hard!
Vikki Ziegler, a celebrity family law attorney, spoke to Hollywood Life and said that, if Barbara has a reason, she could certainly petition the courts for custody of the second child. Given both Jenelle and Courtland's shady pasts (and lack of visitation with their children), Barbara would simply have to prove that the two are unfit. With recent rumors of drug addiction and even involuntary admittals to institutions, there is a chance that Barbara could petition the courts and win.
That is, of course, if the couple have not cleaned up their acts. Jenelle says that she is clean and sober and seems to attribute that to being pregnant. For the sake of her unborn child, hopefully she can stay clean. If she is able to and prove herself as a mother, there is a chance that she could regain custody of Jace. As with everything though, it isn't going to be easy.
Ziegler told the site, "She must stay off drugs, make repeated attempts to see her son, Jace, and also to see her husband's daughter, Jordan (JaJa), 1. She needs to focus on the children who do exist, showing her maternal instincts. Plus, she must focus on her health and keep herself and her fetus out of harm's way."
Now, it seems that Jenelle Evans is working towards doing all of that, but seeing Jordan may be easier said than done. Courtland's ex girlfriend, Taylor Lewis, has been in a Twitter war with the couple for quite some time now and the focus of the fight is a little unclear. Courtland says he wants to see his daughter, while Taylor says Jenelle is keeping him from his daughter. Now, it is hard to say which side is telling the truth because there have been a ton of inconsistencies on both sides, but if Jenelle really is trying to keep Courtland from his daughter, how can she expect to show the courts she has a relationship with the little girl? On the flip side, if it is Taylor keeping the little girl away, then the couple will most likely need to go to court in order to obtain a more consistent visitation schedule.
At the end of the day, the question on everyone's mind is how did Jenelle get pregnant? Why wasn't she being more careful and using protection? Well she was... kind of. The Teen Mom 2 star talked to MTV and said that she was taking birth control pills, but ended up missing a few. Oops. Despite not being planned, the couple are excited and acknowledge that it is going to be a lot of hard work.
Hopefully, for the sake of all the children involved, these two can prove everyone wrong!
