Obama has received more threats than most presidents, and his daughters are bigger targets. If something happened to them, it could be used as a way to manipulate him into making decisions from a more personal perspective, rahter then the collective perspective he is supposed to represents; therefore, I think protecting them is appropriate.

Is the NRA really going to lose that much business if we tell people who are schizoaffective that they cannot own guns? Before the 1970's we institutionalized and sterilized people who were crazy enough to break into schools and shoot little kids. Now it's a civil rights no-no to mandate psychiatric care and consider future generations of those who obviously cannot care for children, so saying "no guns" to people who are psychiatrically likely to shoot others for no reason has become a necessity. It's too bad we have reached a point such as this in our history, but we have.

That is just wrong of the NRA to do. If they (the daughters) are aware of this add, maybe they are and aren't then I am grateful they have such strong loving parents and their own intelligence to see the ad for what it is. Those children, as is his wife, VP, and himself and some other higher ups protected by secret service.

This is the same group who in 2008 advertised that if he was elected he would try to get rid of guns and ammo, at leaset raised the prices by several hundred percent. The weekend after election in 08 Gun and Ammo sales skyrocketed over that first weekend topping in most cases their average yearly amount of sales. And he did not raise prices, deal with any gun legislation or raise taxes on them. When a business, or a large national organization that supports the people who sale the product they promote.....don't go blindly, get some facts.

Good point JoJo. Not to mention previous times when the prez and ms. prez themselves have used their own daughters. For instance, the heartbreaking way Michelle used them when she was trying to get lunch laws enacted or some such (I thought at the time and think it still that she shared way too much info on her daughter's BMI... it made me feel bad for the daughter and uncomfortable).

Ahh.. so the president's children and his own parental rights are a priority and a necessity when simply referring to his children in question form; however, the same privilege is not extended to the rest of us even in regard to issues and situations involving actual disregard of parental authority and of much more import?:

At the time of the incident, Kevin Jennings thought he was breaking the law/going against the rules; and he did it anyway ... sending "Brewster" (a child Jennings thought was just 15) off with a reminder about using condoms, but no warning about how meeting strange older men in bathrooms or anywhere might be quite dangerous.

All with no thought of notifying anyone in authority much less 'talking to' the boy's parents before sending him off to meet with that stranger.

In light of the above intrusions between parents and their offspring (only examples and not an exhaustive list) I'd say the NRA's so-called transgression in this instance is so far down the list of transgressions as to be no transgression at all.

The NRA doesn't want any limits put on gun ownership because even under present laws where 'mentally ill or other dangerous persons' are excluded, they might not make the cut.

Just sayin'. Mr. LaPierre already said that if we thought it was crazy to put armed guards in schools, then 'call me crazy'.

NRA has a clear conflict on policy, because at least one Board member, Kottilides, is a gun manufacturer. it is ostensibly a gun CONSUMER organization, but in fact, it works for the gun manufacturers. and members are naive if they fail to understand this fact.

Honestly, the prez ought to feel like his own children are more important. But he ought not to think they actually are more important than ours.

But one would think the NRA had suggested that all the first born should be dropped into the nearest volcano in the hopes that would appease the god of guns and war, instead of what they actually did which was, ask a legitimate question putting it into a context even the prez might understand. An example. No attack or insult or nastiness involved at all. Just a question asked of a public servant in a way that might help him see it from an average citizen's pov.

It's a matter for local boards of education. Do you think it's a federal issue? Any local BOE can hire armed guards if they want to. There are no laws I know of against that. The NRA is trying to pimp out the Obama girls and that's all there is to it. They are putting those girls in more danger than they already have to live with. The NRA attack is exactly what we should expect from thugs like them.

The position that universal background checks are important but you cannot trust Obama to stop there is fundamentally wrong headed. If you don't trust Obama to do it, you can wait for the NRA to push for it, but that will never happen, because the NRA is steadily drifting into crazy land. It's either now, or wait for the next massacre. Your call, gun owners.
