At the start of every year I like to check out what each museum in Chicago will be exhibiting in the upcoming months. We always purchase a family membership to one of the large museums, and it usually ends up being to the one that has the most special exhibits that we are looking forward to. Almost every year it ends up being my favorite museum, The Field Museum, and it looks like that is going to be the choice for this year too.
The exhibit that I am most looking forward to, the Lascaux Caves exhibit! The Lascaux Caves are about 17,300 years old and located in caves deep under the Dordogne region of France.
The original caves have been closed to the public since the 60s, but replica caves were created for visitors to tour. Still there have been lots of fungus and microbial damage, with a huge convention being held just last year where professionals from all over got together to try and come up with ways to conserve the caves.
Always wanted to go, but now I'll have the chance to walk through the replica caves right here in Chicago! You can take a tour of the caves for yourself too, right on the official website.
