Hint: B Obama is currently our president. presidents are protected by the Secret Service, due to the fact that several have been assassinated in US history, most recently in 1963, with several other failed attempts more recently, including R. Reagan with a bullet that barely missed his heart.
The Secret Service also protects presidential family members, since it would be dangerous for public policy to,have them assassinated or in a hostage situation.

The logic of the NRA is the logic of war. If the other guy comes at you with a weapon, you do whatever you can to find a way to hit him with a bigger weapon.

Given the bigotry and paranoia of the tea party Republicans I suspect there is even more reason than ever to have protection for the President and his family.
