I posted today an article on conspiracy theories. The two that I chose to discuss were
1 Newtown never happened, it was all staged
2 Iodized salt is a western plot to sterilize us (that one is from Pakistan, in case you did not recognize it)
I am delighted to tell you that nobody argued in favor of either of those theories. HOWEVER I did get several people sniping that liberals think that 9/11 was an inside job. Personally, I don't really associate that belief with liberals, but here's the thing that bothered me. I noticed a few minutes later that one of the people sniping at me had just posted an article that was yet another, you guessed it, conspiracy theory job on gun rights.
According to this writer, two recent deaths of gun rights figures in the USA are mysterious and make no sense. One of the guys was found in his place of business, shot dead. The other guy had a car crash near his home and died- with every indication hat he was speeding and lost control.
The implication here is that gun control folk murdered these men, then made one of the murders look like a car crash. This implication is idiotic. what happened to that gun rights talking point that more people die in car crashes than die from gunshots? How about implying that the guy found shot in his gun shop did not make himself any safer by loving guns? Here's the thing about being a criminal- you get to pick the moment that you pull the gun out of your pocket. Yet we are told that it makes no sense for a gun shop owner to be murdered. Hey people with a gun in a holster are killed all the time. Let me also clue you in on the fact that the shooter was probably not a gun control proponent. Because guess what, those people do not carry a gun. I can tell you that, because I am one of them.
The writer closed with the implication that Adam Lanza's rampage was caused by improper medication. It is nonsense that I really do not care to dignify with a response. I just want to ask a question. We have established that Nancy Lanza knew her son was quite troubled- she reportedly had serious trouble trying to get him to actually leave his room. yet she owned a Bushmaster and had no problem teaching him how to shoot it. ........ And you want to blame it on his meds, not because there is any indication that he was given the wrong meds, but just because you don't want to see the obvious.
yeah. Okay. Well, it is not as bad as arguing that Newtown was staged. But really, it is pretty obtuse and lame. Anything to change the subject, anything to distract.

The evolution of knowledge is not smooth.
Smoking tobacco used to be a good idea in the 20s
But I like the discussion.
